Wasn’t sure where else to put this, so here it is.
I’ll start by saying that I’m fairly new to owning guns. Being Canadian, it’s not as easy as it should be. Over the last 3-4 years though, I’ve dived in head first, as I have with any and all hobbies I’ve ever done. My only regret is not doing it sooner.
When I finally decided to get into shooting, I was genuinely hoping it would be something the family could enjoy together. I have an 11 year old son, a 16 year old daughter, and my wife.
I joined my closest sportsmen’s club, and bought a like new Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon and started shooting a lot of trap. That one didn’t fit so well so I got another with an adjustable comb and LOP, and started shooting ATA.
At first I had to drag the fam out to shoot. All of them. One day though, like a switch, my son started asking when we could shoot again. Now we shoot all the time. I’m likely at one of the two clubs I belong two 5 times a week, and he’s with me at least 2 of those 5.He prefers the moving targets to precision shooting. Oh and handgun.
My wife and daughter on the other hand took to the .22LR rifle. My daughter really liked silhouette, but being a 16 year old girl, there isn’t a lot of time for dad and the range.
As a junior member of the rifle section, I would have to be there with another member in order to shoot for the first year. My wife counted, but would never shoot my rifle. She’s not anti gun. She’s actually pro the right to own guns, but she’d hang out either in the car, or at another bench and do her internetting while I shot. If it was .22LR, “No problem.” 6.5CM? “No thanks.” That is until as of late. Something has changed. We go to the range together a lot now, and we don’t even bring a 22. I don’t know what changed, but I’m glad it did. Must have finally convinced her my 21lb braked 6.5CM’s bark is worse than its bite. She hasn’t turned down a range trip since they opened after ‘Rona season. AND SHE CAN SHOOT!
I just get to make her ammo and shoot photos now

You are more American than most Americans.

    That’s a compliment. Well done!
I’ve met a lot of really great folks in the last 4 years. People that I can really relate to. The problem is, they’re all double my age. We lose one every month on average. Perhaps I was meant for a different time.

The wife and I were shooting the air rifle in the back yard tonight. She is an outstanding shot. I'd like to say that taught her everything she knows, but to be honest, she's a natural.

Where are you exactly? I'm anxiously awaiting, but not too optimistic about the border reopening in time. I have my annual Elk River cutthroat trip starting the 28th.....ugh thinking we will be getting vouchers on our accommodations for next year in Fernie. Any news? Last I heard BC had shut down to even Calgarians! It's amazing the lack of love b/t BC and Calgary....interesting feud to hear about every year when I'm up there.

I took some co-worker shooting yesterday and my wife tagged along. She has only shot may 6 or 7 times in our 23 years of marriage. Yet, she shot the lights out. Shooting my 9mm Browning Hi Power at 7 yards, she was grouping everything within about 2.5 inches. Her groups with my Colt SAA were all touching at the same distance. She ended up shooting 13 different pistols and had a great time. Then we shot the AR-15 and at 50 yards supported she kept 20 shots all within a 3 inch group. It was awesome to see, and she was so excited by the end. While she has always tolerated by shooting, this trip showed her how much fun it can be and she said she wants to start going out more. I think I have a new shooting partner!

most women that take up shooting end up really good at it.....provided they are not taught by a incompetent moron.
You should see @Mike Casselton wife shoot she's unreal. Mike shows me a paper group most of SH would be happy with at 100 and he said 'yea that was as 300'. I was taking a power nap b/f hunting last night and missed the show at the range....but I've seen it before she is boring if you like center of paper torn out.

I’m in Onterrible. Last I heard, September the border may open again. I’m in a similar situation. We have a family trip planned to The Great Smoky Mountains in October. It’s already been postponed from April. I love the Smokies.

Have her flatten those feet out... no toes digging into the deck! And pull that pinkie in! She drinking tea? ;-)

Seriously great photos. Great story! And great job promoting shooting! I'll make sure to exclude you and the 'fam whenever I am making fun of Canuckans! Like Sean the Nailer... you good people!

    Cheers,

Cheers! Ultimately, I’d prefer to be in BC as well.

She listens extremely well (all of a sudden). Her trigger finger seems perfect. I’ve got her pulling the rifle with the other three fingers. Maybe not quite enough yet, but it’s a lot better, and her trigger follow through is great too. Yesterday she says, “I keep squeezing the trigger until the ringing stops.” Haha!
And don’t worry about excluding me. Any Canadian that doesn’t have a sense of humour about being Canadian, and offer you some better Canadian jokes, probably doesn’t deserve the effort.

for all of those introducing their girls to shooting now.....

be aware that there is an ammo shortage going on-dont run yourselves out of ammo. it’s great that they are taking an interest....but now might not be the best time to be blowing through loads of ammo.

look into airguns, bows, crossbows if the powder stores are not deep.

    I hear you.
Just picked up a fresh 8 pounder of H4350, and contemplated getting 2.
