That’s a violent one. Seen similar but not as explosive on Lake Erie.
What area is that?
A friend and I have talked about section-hiking part of the AT. So far it hasn't happened but we keep trying to plan. Crazy life keeps getting in the way. If we go, it'll be Virginia or more southern end.
That part of the AT is beside Elk River, which is the next section North of the Roan Mtn section. It is a very pretty section, but it can be a little bit of a ball buster as it has 4000’ of altitude gain over 24 miles. It was beautiful, but it hurt. I knew I needed to be in better shape, but life keeps getting in the way of my exercise plan. I can be too knuckle headed sometimes. I paid for it this weekend, but that section is now done. It was worth it.

My grandfather and then great uncle had a deer cabin at one time that ended up very close to the AT trail when it was made. It was near Tazwell county VA. My great uncle passed away and his daughter sold it. That's one reason I want to hike that section. I did one hunt out of that cabin in the Nat Forest that was walking distance from that cabin.
Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glenfinnan Scotland. The wife and I hiked a portion of the Cape Wrath Trail for our 25th anniversary, two years ago now. On day two we passed under this amazing structure on our way north. Scotland is definitely one place we intend to revisit! Thanks for the flashbacks @Sgt47.

Yes, I went from Dennis Cove Rd down to 19E in TN. 24 mi over a three day weekend. I just have one more section just north of this one, and I’ll have Roan to Damascus done. I’ve already done Springer to Fontana Dam, now I just have to complete the middle pieces.
You should look for pictures of the trucks that carry those bales.
They can self load and unload them by just driving out from under them.
