My TRG in 260 has the same pattern of holes or pitting you are asking about. I think it´s caused by the hammer forging process. If you try to stuff blue tac into a bottle cap you are not likely to get a perfect print of the inside. There will likely be a similar pattern.
The Solaris SRX is widely used in the UK by night vision hunters. It lights up targets well at 500m. It will barely light up a black roof at 1100m. It would be worth being on one of J.W. Ramp´s comparisons.

How has your Terrapins worked in light snowfall or rain? My old Leica CRF1600 worked in pretty much any condition but the Terrapin doesn´t show ranges past 50m in case it´s snowing. When there´s no downpour whatsoever it works as advertised.
