    Help, my 5.56 reloads suck

25.5 grains of H335 is the go to for 55 grain 556 ammo. Always had good luck with Tac and 77 smk’s

    ES inverse of accuracy

The CCI 200 primers probably aren’t doing you any favours. They are a fairly mild large rifle primer.

    AI AE MKII Barrel Source?

Anyone that makes AT barrels can spin you a barrel that will headspace properly on your AE provided the recoil lug has not been modified in any way. Over the years I have installed at least 4 AT barrels on old AE guns and have never had a problem. I wasn’t pulling them constantly or swapping...

    Which .308 Barrel

I have a PVA 9 twist in .308 on an old AE and it shoots everything from Speer 125 grain hp’s to Sierra 220’s into tiny little groups. Don't worry about being handicapped by the 9 twist.

    AIAE barrel nut

This part makes sense. I have re-barreled two ae rifles with at barrels and did not have any issues. Screwed them on and torqued them. Checked headspace and both were good to go.

    AIAE barrel nut

I was aware of that. I just figured most people would prefer a shouldered prefit over a barrel nut.

    AIAE barrel nut

Why a barrel nut? AT barrels are reverse compatible with the AE. Just so you don’t have to remove the action from the chassis?

Trying to develop a safe load for my .308, need help

I’ve had good luck with cfe223 and light bullets in the .308. 52.5 grains, a 125 Speer tnt, with federal brass and Cci #34 primers. Velocity out of a 16 inch lmt are right at 2920 fps. It shoots well out of multiple firearms too.

What contributes to ES and SD beside the obvious?

Load data for the initial question consisted of Norma 30-06 brass necked up in two steps. Once through a .338-06 die and then the .35 Whelen die. Brass was new and not fireformed. Powder was 60 grains of AR-Comp dispensed through a chargemaster supreme, bullet was a 200 grain Barnes TTSX seated...

What contributes to ES and SD beside the obvious?

Thank you for such an insightful response DocRDS. I should have listed the SD numbers in my initial post. The Ruger was like 17.6 and 19.5 for each of the two 5 round strings with nothing I would call an extreme outlier for any of the shots. I don’t recall the SD for the Pacnor. Don’t have my...

What contributes to ES and SD beside the obvious?

Thanks for taking a stab at it. I know the two are different in the ways the Ruger has a looser chamber and more freebore. Maybe that is what is causing the difference.

What contributes to ES and SD beside the obvious?

I was out shooting this weekend trying to find a load for two separate rifles both in .35 Whelen. I had several lots of ammo I had reloaded. Long story short both rifles shot very well with one particular load so I attached the magneto speed to get some velocity numbers. One of the rifles has a...

    30-06 147gr stability issues

I wasn’t being a smart ass when I said that was “pretty good.” You mentioned you loaded it to duplicate the load for your m1 garand and loaded it 4895, I’m betting your powder charge is somewhere in the 45 to 47 grain range. That leaves a lot of room for powder to go wherever it wants in the...
