    Gunsmithing Heat/Fire Wedge

Re: Heat/Fire Wedge BD, my thinking exactly. That rifle was a tackdriver and could shoot, untill these BT was used. So I still think you got a point.

    Gunsmithing Left Hand 7mm-08

Re: Left Hand 7mm-08 This thread is a bit confusing. My take is that you have a left hand action 243 and that you have a 7mm-08 barrel. You state that you have decided to build the 7mm-08. You did not say " I have decided to have one built" which means a gunsmith will do it for you. Hence the...

    Gunsmithing Heat/Fire Wedge

Re: Heat/Fire Wedge BD, that explains a lot. I inherited a 300 H&H from my dad, accurate as anything. Maybe he had pushed about 5000 rounds of flat based bullets through it. I loaded some boat tails, and it was'nt 100 rounds and the barrel was cooked. I had to replace the barrel.

    Cartridge cook off and damage?

Re: Cartridge cook off and damage? Without a chamber and a bolt to hold things together not much happens. The bullet kinda just pops out the case. The primer does more damage. We had some military tents burn down once. Ammo in thin steel trommels or bedside cabinets simply popped away. In...

    Members in South Africa

Re: Members in South Africa The only range I know that stretches to 600m is outside Brits. It is privately owned and the owner is very relaxed. No benches etc, just the markers at 100m intervals. Must have been an ex SADF range as it has a proper bunker with pull down targets. For steel...

Maggie’s the luckiest shot that you have ever seen

Re: the luckiest shot that you have ever seen On a hunting trip a few of us where standing at the bottom of a ravine, ready to pack up. next thing we spot a bushpig running out the top of the ravine. Which is a rare sight as they are mostly nocturnal. I would have to lie if I told you...

Re: Members in South Africa Hi Raven, I reside in Pretoria and also believe that baboons are better citizens then our ANC led govt. I am rather active in SAhunting field shooting etc and hunt as much as I can afford too. I met another South African on this site about 2 months ago who is...

Maggie’s the luckiest shot that you have ever seen

Re: the luckiest shot that you have ever seen On a hunting trip we were all standing in a group making hunting plans when a corrie bustard flew overhead.(A bird the size of a Egyptian goose). My dad said to us watch this and cocked his 300H&H and took a shot at the bird flying about...

Maggie’s If you see this you will shit bricks....

Re: If you see this you will shit bricks.... Sihr has a point. Most military training at some point involves live rounds. I have done military training running the obstacle course with live rounds being fired overhead and stun grenades lobbed all around us. And the guys behind the triggers...

    Barrel life and shoulder taper.

Re: Barrel life and shoulder taper. Thanks for reply, but to clarify a bit, the argument made is that at this converging point the gas is the hottest, so most damage occurs at this point. It is acknowledged that the heated gas burns all the way down the barrel. But does this gas actually...
