    6.5 Creedmoor

Since most shooting is 600yd or less before the bullet tip melts, why worry, just shoot them. That being said, I’ve watched several Hornady podcasts, they come across as sharp guys. But they must be idiots to have missed this. You take the stagnation pressure and the Mach number and air density...

    6.5 Creedmoor

Amax was dropped, look for Eldm or Atip. There was a problem with poor material selection for the plastic tip which melted away at long range and affected BC’s. But a lot of people still are burning through their stock (for example my brother who has 3000 of them). Essentially functionally...

Barrel life on 6.5CM vs. .308

The Pendleton sniper school instructors say they pull 308 barrels at around 8,000 rounds. Accuracy spec is 1 moa at 100 meters if I remember correctly. Mine went at about 6,000 but I ran it hard, around 2730 FPS. Bullet hits the lands with about 1 inch of jump where the base of the bullet is out...

Rifle Scopes Spuhr Mounts- Scope Mounting

I torqued to spec using high quality torque tools and my ATACR slipped. Loctite doesn’t set because it needs bare metal to react. This was on a 6.5 Creed in hunting weight for a match.

    Rifle Scopes Optic Failures

    1. Bushnell DMR (I have one) but the guy next to me at a Rifles Only match in Texas had his erector or reticle break, something inside was rattling. I was the only one who saw where is errant shot went, way low and right and bounced along the ground for a few hundred yards. 2. Tasco World Class...

What are NRL .22 folks using for scopes?

The issue with long term scope reliability is tracking, which my understanding is due to design of the adjustment mechanism. That many Asian scopes use a rubber ring inside the adjustment mechanism that holds one end of the erector for the turrets to work against which eventually hardens and...

What are NRL .22 folks using for scopes?

In our NRL-22 match we have a ZCO, Nightforce ATACR, Vortex Gen III, VORTEX Strikefire, Diamondback and other Vortex models, Burris, Arken, Minox, Ares Athlon and some others all show up depending on which mix of shooter attends that month. Pretty much everything shows up at some point with new...

    Acceptable Extreme Variations Factory Ammo

Similar to what I measured for factory Barnes match ammo. I’m pretty sure the powder charge is not weighed in any bulk factory ammo. Many years back I did a powder drop test and got variations of a grain or more on an RCBS powder measure with Varget. Other measures performed better as I recall...

    .243 win question

I'm using 44.5 gr h4831sc with sierra 107's. Getting 3000 fps on a 28 in barrel. Got 2330 rounds through it right now. Still shoots ok, around .38 moa or so.

    Removing Harris bipod rubber feet?

Roll pin punches have a small guide pin protrusion on them to help keep them from slipping. Otherwise, second on having a good backup block and a bit larger hammer.

    Average cost of rebarrel?

1 in 11.25 would be better for heavies. Do you just want the M40 taper? Or do you want the exact same barrel make as the M40? I don't know what they are using, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find out. The Camp Pendleton Marine snipers run their barrels for about 8000 rounds average...

Gunsmithing Another way to skin the cat?

The steps you proposed don't make the raceway true to the barrel tenon, it just stays wherever it is. If instead after indicating to the threaded stub you then bore the raceway with a single point cutter (not reaming which follows the original raceway), then it will be concentric and true to the...

    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

Saw the mig crash the year before the f-18 crash. Mig pilot had faked his air show credentials as a low altitude rated performer. He made a distinctly egg shaped loop because he didn't pull back the power on the downhill.

    Flush Cups/HS Precision

+1 I used threaded cups, had to buy a tap for it.

Interesting problem with Surgeon 591/R action. Pics included, would like feedback.

Here it is today, with about 2000 ±50 rounds and some more dry firing. I found my previous post, the first picture is with 50 rounds downrange and about 500 dry fire cycles. I'm not gonna apologize for it being dirty, it nearly always looks like that.
