Thank you that was my original assessment. Anyone used a hydraulic press with oak blocks in lieu of a barrel vise? We have one at work, considering cutting a v groove and sandwiching the wood blocks between steel plates prior installation on the hydraulic press. Compression is easily controlled.
I would like to remove my 308 barrel. I found the removal tools from KRG and Bugholes.com as well as using a Wheeler #1. Which tool is the best for this application? I read comments on the KRG tool type regarding possible receiver damage. I may want to reinstall the 308 barrel in the future...

FWIW I have a 223 PSS, early 90's. HS synthetic stock, parkerized barrel and bolt, two swivel mounts in the front. On this 223 twist ia 1:9 Accurate, trained several new people with it.
Apologies if this was posted before. We have all seen this image. Why is a cantilever scope mount used in this rifle? Any advantages? or just advertisement? Wouldn't a non cantilever mount provide a wider more stable mount? Rings as far apart as possible (is no cant required)? Thanks
Should have posted before the trip lol. Olmstead point. Yosemite was conducting a controlled burn in the valley hence the haze. Base camp was in Mammoth Lake. One day we drove to Crowley to see the columns, are you referring to Benton Crossing?
Spent a few days on the eastern Sierras. Ghost town of Bodie, Tioga pass (Yosemite), Yosemite Village, Lake Crowley (Columns) Convict Lake, Mammoth Lake, June Lake. Mono Lake (tufas formations). Most enjoyable was Tioga Pass area, less crowded. We plan to return and do some hiking.
