    First "precision" build...on a budget

Thanks all. I hope to get to the range tomorrow, though not sure my meager skills will do this rifle justice. However, I am pleased with it so far. I've heard the scope is decent for the money, and I got a good deal on a like new scope (used 1-2 times), so I went in this direction versus, say...

    First "precision" build...on a budget

I have not been to the range yet, but so far, the mags seem great! Fit is perfect and they seem to function with no issues, just from cycling through a couple mags to test them out. I really like the extended mag release as well.

    First "precision" build...on a budget

LOL...no money left for a case of ammo, but do have several boxes of FGMM. I have not seen those videos...will have to check them out. This rifle, as shown (plus the muzzle brake), came in just a few dollars under $1k. I guess great minds think alike. ;-)

    First "precision" build...on a budget

Well, I've been hanging out on the forum, reading about builds, asking questions, searching the classifieds, trying to decide on the right first build, given my limited budget. I decided on a Savage model 10 P-SR in .308 Win, with tactical bolt handle, 18" bull barrel, threaded, and 5R rifling...

Rifle Scopes Best of the mid-priced rings?

No, no, no...I do not trust my own measurements! lol I appreciate your real world advice, especially with the same rifle/barrel (basically). The taper was one unknown I had (the rifle is still in transit), as was the difference between the barrel and the top of the receiver. It didn't make sense...

Rifle Scopes Best of the mid-priced rings?

Thanks for the advice. I used the scope ring calculator (here: Scope Ring Height and Clearance Calculator), and I guess either I don't understand or it is off. According to the calculator, with the outside objective at 52mm (per Falcon specs), BC cover at 2mm (though often 3mm is used), ring...

    Rifle Scopes Scope ring inserts?

Thanks. After thinking about it a bit, I suspected that it wasn't a good idea. I appreciate the confirmation.

    Rifle Scopes Scope ring inserts?

I really like the idea of the inserts on the Signature Zee rings, both for the protection of the scope as well as eliminating the need for lapping. This got me thinking...why don't all rings have some kind of thin "soft" material inside and avoid the metal to metal contact with the scope as well...

Rifle Scopes Best of the mid-priced rings?

Seems like a consensus is emerging...will look at TPS.

Thanks for the reference...have not heard of them.

Rifle Scopes Best of the mid-priced rings?

Thanks all. Fdkay...I looked at the Weaver rings but was concerned about the quality. Based on your experience and comments from others, looks like I may be able to get away with low, or medium at worst, rings with the Falcon scope. Although 44m, OD of objective is 52mm, before BC caps. Guess...

Rifle Scopes Best of the mid-priced rings?

So, I was looking at the Burris XTR, Signature Zee, Warne, Vortex Viper, TPS and other similar priced rings. I would like to stay under $100 for a set of rings, preferably under $75. I am shooting a Savage 10 P-SR in .308 with a 30mm Falcon Menace 4-14x44mm FFP scope. I have been reading this...
