I’ve eventually settled on rings with a 1/2” nut. The rings that fasten to a rail with small little #6 torx screws have given me problems holding zero. I hold the rifle vertically, mount the scope with NF Ultralight rings (I buy from Expert Voice w veteran discount), lightly snug the 1/2” nut...
Update: My best so far has been 55.5 H4831 w 135 Bergers. I’ve tried various other combinations of H1000, N565, N555 w Berger 144, 153 Atip and 147 ELDM.
MY rifle is short action, 2.990” mags, has a Bartlein/Snowy Mtn Rifle bbl, 22”, 1:8” twist.
Have you found 143 ELDX to work better for you than other bullets? I tried some Hornady factory loads. Precision Hunter I think. one 5 shot group was the best I’ve shot with this rifle - 0.550, but then shot another 5 shot group that was 1.20”. Still might buy some 143 ELDX to try.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I’m at 100 rounds now. I really don’t care much about speed, but seems everyone else is getting 100-200 fps more with similar loads.
I’ve been having somewhat disappointing results with 6.5 PRC. Shooting a Zermatt Origin w/ a Snowy Mtn (Bartlein) CF 22” barrel, 8 twist. SAAMI chamber w/0.188 freebore.
I’ve tried Berger 135 and 144. Hornady 147 and 153 Atips. Have tried N565, H4831SC and a few with Superperformance. Started...
Ok, I understand it now. That’s unacceptable. I avoid Leupold in general because basically none of them pass a drop test. This looks like another example of below average quality.
As useless as tits on a boar…
Edit: useless to me, maybe not to you. I mean, if you don’t dial at all and you don’t use any turret/reticle adj in live shooting, then it is probably a fine scope for you!
please explain, Why does it matter? If the reticle is aligned with gravity, then everything should work when shooting, dialing etc. So why does it matter how the tube or turrets are aligned? When I dial 4.3 mils elevation, or hold 0.5 mils wind, all I care about is the reticle accuracy.
Thank you sir, for this review. I watched it twice! I am interested to see your Tract Toric review when you finish it. Would love to see the head to head between the Maven and Toric as you mentioned. My concern with the Toric is reliability. Rockslide tested the Toric 3-18 and it failed pretty...
Love your reviews. Just bought a Maven RS1.2 2.5-15x. I’ve been searching for a IPVO with a decent reticle for some time. Have been through numerous others. This is the Best reticle at 2.5X AND 15x that I’ve seen. Glass is sharp. Not too heavy. You can get any Maven scope on a 2 week free trial...
Same here on several points. Bought one using mil discount. Probably my favorite reticle. It is a useful reticle for the full range 2.5-15x. I’m not a glass expert, but I compared it to several $1200-$1800 scopes. Image looks as good or better than all of them. At 15x it was brighter in low...
