Agree. The OP said 'battle rifle'. The logical choices in the US are an AR in 5.56 or an AK47. Since AK's are no longer cheap, and the price of ammo has narrowed (just lately) if I had to pick one I would go with the AR for the reasons stated above - and for the superior ergonomics compared...- bluetone
