    Gunsmithing CDI Precision Install

Re: CDI Precision Install I'm not sure of the procedure for your REM, but I just installed one on my Savage and it was very straight forward. Jeff supplied the prints for the distance off the bottom of the receiver to the bottom metal. I didn't have to adjust anything, I hope your's goes on...

Gunsmithing New Savage arrived today, what mods to go with?

Re: New Savage arrived today, what mods to go with? I haven't owned a bolt rifle or for that matter any Savage rifle ever, I always had ARs and pistols. I love ARs but one day I went to the range and saw a couple of bench rest shooters shooting Savage rifles. I asked one of them why not a Rem...

Gunsmithing New Savage arrived today, what mods to go with?

Re: New Savage arrived today, what mods to go with? I got my headspace gage and tighten it a little and you are correct on the looseness, she's good to go now. I've posted some of the finished pictures on my other post, i'll put some here to. Still playing around with loads and seating...

Gunsmithing Savage finally finished and ready for the range

Re: Savage finally finished and ready for the range Well I got to the range today and did a little testing. Overall I'm very pleased with the results, I had to fight the wind somewhat. I played around with bullet seating depth and I think I've found the best depth for accuracy. She looks...

Gunsmithing Savage finally finished and ready for the range

Re: Savage finally finished and ready for the range I've heard all the hype about fluting barrels, I've never had any bad experiences in the pass, not to say that I won't in the future. I've always taking the safe approach to fluting in my eyes, I only flute a .1875 wide and never exceed .075...

Gunsmithing Savage finally finished and ready for the range

I just wanted to post some pictures of my build. I looking towards the weekend to get some range time in. This was how she looked stock, she's a Savage 12 FVSS in 308 win. You know I could wait to shoot her, 375 yards was as long as I could shoot on my buddy's property. I was putting holes...

Rifle Scopes Range Finder which to choose for 1000 yards?

I need help, I'm trying to get geared up for longer distance, I need a range finder and have no clue which to get. I have seen them in the $250 range, but I don't no how well or how far they will go. I don't have deep pockets so I would like to get something under $500 that would do the job...

    Gunsmithing "Ball Milling" a barrel.

Re: "Ball Milling" a barrel. I always use a .250 radius slitting saw, ramp in and out. I've had great luck with this. The ADCO barrel is very ugly in my opinion, plunging in with for many cuts will always leave tool marks. I have always like the spiral fluting but I only have a 3 axis...

    Gunsmithing Barrel length vs accuracy

Re: Barrel length vs accuracy Well today I started on the muzzle brake, It started out as a 1.250 dia piece of 304 stainless. I turned it down and drilled and tapped the bore. Then I cut some flats on it to shed some weight. I'll cut the gas ports tomorrow. Here are some pics.

    Gunsmithing Barrel length vs accuracy

Re: Barrel length vs accuracy Well Guys it's finished. I had to make a few tools to get the job done, I cut a barrel wrench out on the wire EDM, then made some oak vise jaws. She came apart real easy, It took a while indicating the barrel in true on the lathe but I wanted it dead nuts. After...

    Gunsmithing Barrel length vs accuracy

Re: Barrel length vs accuracy Wow, I guess I opened up a can of worms, My reasoning behind my question was that I'm interested in shooting in two man sniper comps, I want accuracy as does everyone else, I just don't want to be running and lugging a heavy rifle if I didn't have to. I am...

    Gunsmithing Barrel length vs accuracy

Re: Barrel length vs accuracy I was thinking that he was using the powder measure for my 5.56 ammo, I figured he meant 2674 FPS. Anyways I'm looking forward to making her shorter, I do have one question, using a 20 moa base would I be able to zero at 100 yards or would I have to zero at say...
