Elr 30-06 barrel length and twist

Re: Elr 30-06 barrel length and twist 30-06 is a great round for long range. You can do a lot with a Savage 110 heavy barrel in 30-06. 1:10 twist is a good rate to handle anything from 168 to 220 bullets.

Remember the Great .30-06 Debate 10 Years Ago?

Re: Remember the Great .30-06 Debate 10 Years Ago? Just got back from the range. Ran an OCW on m 208's with 4831sc. OAL was 3.375", which put the seating about .020" off the lands using Winchester brass. Took it up to 60.3 gr with no significant signs of pressure - some minor primer...

    Savage 110 FCP HS Prec

Re: Savage 110 FCP HS Prec I have a 110 HS FCP in 30-06. Had Savage custom build it for me. They recommended I do my own mount, so I bedded and installed a 20 MOA Murphy Precision steel mount.

    Rebarreling a savage 110FCP 338 lapua

Re: Rebarreling a savage 110FCP 338 lapua Berger and any other bullet manufacturer usually lists the recommended twist rate on their website, so I'd go with that. If you don't care about weight, and assuming you're hunting long distance with it, go for a 29" heavy barrel with a brake...

    Savage 110 fcp scope base?

Re: Savage 110 fcp scope base? I used a 20MOA stainless Murphy Precision scope base on my 110. Ended up bedding it to the receiver for best stability using JB Weld, then used Loctite on the screws (mine came with 8-40 screws as a target port action) - it's not going anywhere.

Basic questions for the advanced shooters

Re: Basic questions for the advanced shooters You'll definitely want to get into at least some basic reloading. FGMM 168 is about the best match ammo you can buy, but at ~$40 per box of 20 it's pricey. You can also experiment with Black Hills and HSM to see which one shoots decent enough...

416 Barrett vs 408 Cheytac STRICLTLY CARTRIDGE!

Re: 416 Barrett vs 408 Cheytac STRICLTLY CARTRIDGE! There's nothing inherently accurate about one caliber over another, so you can't really make a direct accuracy comparison between a .416 and a .408CT. It comes down to the entire system - rifle, load, shooter, etc. If you're talking...

Savage 10 Precision or Savage FCP-SR

Re: Savage 10 Precision or Savage FCP-SR You can call Savage custom (talk to Effie) and have them build you the rifle you want at no extra cost. Don't settle for their catalog offerings. Best of both worlds.

new 30-06 build, need some input

Re: new 30-06 build, need some input Optimum barrel twist depends on the bullet you want to use, and it's not as simple as looking at the bullet weight. Bullet length, for example, is a factor as well. There are some ~200gr bullets that require 1:8 twist rate or faster for proper stability...
