    The 9/11 Anniversary is tomorrow...

I was in my office in the Pentagon that day - I was a division chief in Army Strategy, Plans and Policy. Our suite was on the 3rd floor, D Ring of the wedge where the plane hit. This picture was taken about 10 days or so after the attack when we were allowed back in to try to secure our safes -...

    Mosin Nagant M9130 Ex-Sniper Rifle ?

The SAMCO scope-less snipers are, to my knowledge, original snipers. I'll need pictures to tell whether the scope is genuine. The Ch or CN marks were not used to designate Izhevsk snipers as they were on Tula produced snipers. Most Izhevsk snipers did have the scope number stamped in the right...

Range 4 Quantico...Are you ready Skip? The Gunny and Brian are calling you out!

Who are the two guys humping all of their gear from line to line in ruck sacks, instead of using carts filled with gear and sandbags? Yup, the two old Army colonels.

Range 4 Quantico...Are you ready Skip? The Gunny and Brian are calling you out!

Skip and I reload for the Mosin. I'm not sure what the course of fire will be. We normally shoot 300 and 600 yards on day 1 with some combination of individual and team. Typically, they allow unlimited spotters for 5 minutes followed by 20 exposures for 15 seconds each. Targets are pulled and...

Range 4 Quantico...Are you ready Skip? The Gunny and Brian are calling you out!

So, all I want to know is if the young guns are buying the after- match beers? I'll be on the line again with Skip!

Depending on what you want, you have options. Greg offered one way. You can also pick up an original PU scope and repro mount and rail for about $400. The question is, as I asked above, what do you plan to do with it. If you are just looking to have some fun, Greg's option is fantastic. If you...

Why Would Anyone Want to Shoot a Vintage Sniper Rifle?

I think you wrapped it up quite nicely. I enjoy the challenge of having to be an equal partner with the rifle. The lower powered optics adds to the process with consistent POA crucial to repeating hits on the target.

A question for all you manly men target shooting an M40

This is a picture of my Dad in July 1946 at Parris Island. The shooting jacket I listed above is very close in design but actually lighter weight material and works well with a t-shirt underneath. To me, this is a much better option that the slip on buffers and not only cushions the shoulder but...

Who all's got a "Vintage Sniper Rifle"

A question for all you manly men target shooting an M40

Yup. I forgot to post the link. Mary made one for me, my son and I also had one made in pink for my wife.

A question for all you manly men target shooting an M40

I wear this when I'm going to put a lot of rounds downrange. It's a repro of the old USMC shooting jackets and works like a champ. I shoot a lot of 7.62X54r - use Soviet 91/30 PU snipers for the VS matches - with a pretty heavy load to push out to 1000 yards and I am very pleased with how well...

Who all's got a "Vintage Sniper Rifle"

4 Mosin Nagant PU snipers for me - a '43 Tula original, a '43 Tula restored ex-sniper, a '42 Izhevsk restored ex-sniper and a CAI repro built off a '27 Izhevsk. The ex-snipers are my match rifles, but I shoot them all.

My 1943 Tula Mosin Nagant ex-sniper reborn!

Varget is very stable in terms of temperature stability, I've been told. I currently use a load of 43.5gns of Varget for my competition loads. But, I found that my results were not as good this past match when i moved out to 800 and 1000 yards. My partner has been shooting a load of 45gns and...
