    Bolt Action with Iron Sights

Back in the 20s right after WWI, a lot of surplus bolt action rifles came home from Europe, and a rather prolific industry in sporterizing these rifles took off in this country. As scopes were in their infancy, sighting equipment usually consisted of a Lyman 48 receiver sight and simple front...

Rem700 adl fit in Rem700bdl stock?

Let's start over - if your action HAS a hinged floorplate/bottom metal, it is NOT an ADL. ADL's have blind magazines and the bottom is a simple trigger guard and an escutcheon for the front receiver ring/action screw. So, what exactly do you have?

    Gunsmithing which action to use?

Try a Granite Mountain Arms African action. The double square bridge could actually be milled at the necessary angle to gain a few more MOA before slapping a rail on it. Granite Mountain Arms - African Magnum

American Rifle's M5 Bolt Action, The Mausingfield

In the pictures, it looks like the sear notch on the cocking piece is designed for square or 90 degree engagement instead of the ramped or angled engagement of the Remington. Am I just dreaming or will this be a production feature? For my personal Mauser/Springfield/Winchester M70, dinosaur...

    7mm Rem Mag question

Mark - sounds like a basic ADL synthetic. If I remember correctly, those stocks are injection molded plastic. The biggest problem with those is that they flex. I have friends who have roughed up the inside finish then filled them with bedding compound and even pieces of drill rod in the fore...

    7mm Rem Mag question

What stock is on it? Wood or synthetic, BDL or ADL? How is the crown? Have you done any load development? What scope mount does it have currently, if any? Does the barrel float? Pretty much all of the voodoo has been worked out of the Rem mag since Phil Sharpe's 7mm Sharpe & Hart inspired...

What are the must have features of a new short action receiver?

How will it be manufactured? CNC from a billet or maybe on a forging? What is your anticipated price range - for me, a must-have is affordability. Are you absolutely married to the M700 foot print? Many of the features mentioned, while desirable, will affect the cost. While a non-round-tube...

Gunsmithing is it possible to build a bolt action 9MM rifle

I mean they share the same case head size. If you are wanting to build up a rifle chambered for 9mm, you should start with an action that was originally used for a 223/5.56 as the bolt face would already be correct for a 9mm - one less thing to have to alter. Same as with AR's - the (semi...

Re: Controlled feed 700 bolt assmbly? Check with Dave Kiff at PT&G - I want to say he was working on a CRF M700 compatible bolt a year or two ago. Maybe saw it in a SHOT report or something.

Gunsmithing Rem 700. Major conversion to .500 S&W

Re: Rem 700. Major conversion to .500 S&W If you aren't married to a big bore cartridge, since you already have a .222 bolt face, why not a simple rebarrel to 300 AAC Blackout? AAC sells aftermarket short-chambered barrels for the 700. Use bottom metal that will take AI (5.56) mags and...
