It should fully form to the chamber if you jam the bullet in the lands first firing. Pinning the face of the brass against the bolt face. Or shoot a hot load but this way stretches the base and blows out it out fast but you sacrifice the brass stretching and not hardening at the base. creates...
So far the consensus is that 8208 works out of an AR with 77gr. What’s the difference loading for an AR vs bolt gun? Why does it shoot better in an AR vs bolt gun?
I went from 22gr 2650 fps up to 23.8 2900 fps and couldn’t find a powder node. SD avgs 7-10 es 10-30. Out of a bolt gun. Anything above 23.7gr flattened and cratered primers bad. I’ll probably test around the 22.3gr mark at 2700 fps since that was the most consistent numbers and the best groups.
The load might be too hot with that double base powder and virgin brass. Size a few fired cases and try again to see if the primers pop. Can always go to cci450 or br4, cups are harder.
For reference I remeasured my Lapua brass using a hornady gauge and it’s about 1.457-1.460, using the Whidden gauge it’s 1.446-1.449. With the hornady gauge mine doesn’t seem as short as your chamber. So far fired hasn’t grown at all.
