Rifle Scopes Prefered Objective, and why?

For alot of years the conventional wisdom seemed to be that a 40-42mm objective was the prefered size for a tactical scope and that main tube size was what was important. Now it seems as though alot are going to a 50mm or larger (take the USMC Schmidt & Bender with a 50mm for example). So my...

    260 barrel lenth

I have a 26" Schilen on my .260 build and love it. We did however build a 6.5 Creedmore with a 20" barrel (special purpose gun) and we were very surprised with it's performance. Go 24 or go 26, not sure you will see any difference.

Gunsmithing A couple of questions for you Pro's

The reason is that I am building a .338 Edge. As Savage Ultra-Mag actions are quite rare and Remington Ultra-Mag actions are quite easy to find I decided to us a Remington. Yes a Savage Long action can be used to build an Ultra-Mag based cartridge, but that leaves other problems such as...

Gunsmithing A couple of questions for you Pro's

Two quick questions for the Pro's here. The first concerns Pac-Nor barrels. All I have used in the past is Schilen barrels. While surfing I was drawn to Pac-Nor's site, and they have some features that are desirable to me. Being a fan of Savage actions, I like that the Pac-Nor barrels can be...

    6.5 Creedmoore as SHTF caliber...?

I agree 100%. During the recent happenings many of the gun stores in my area were completly cleaned out of ammo. And trust me in SHTF it's going to be MUCH, MUCH worse. If you have a cartridge that you really like such as 7mm Dakota, 7.21 Firebird or 338 Edge or something common such as .223...

Remington 700 .308 models - which variations are good to start with?

I still have the same 700 PSS in .308 that was my original precision rifle. It is the 26" barrel model with the fixed magazine and the HS stock. With a Leupold MK4 4.5-14 and my handloads (or Fedral Gold Medal) it is very capable of your accuracy requirments. Years back when I began shopping...

    My new 6.5 Creedmoor

We recently took a Savage 10fcp with the HS stock that was a factory .308 and rebarreled it with a Schilen Select Match barrel to 6.5 Creedmore. It has been an outstanding rig for it's owner and shoots great. My personal rig is identical to this gun but is chambered in .260 Rem and is also an...

    Still A Contender?

I know this topic is going to raise ALOT of controversy, but this has been nagging me for quite awhile. My first precision rifle (that I still have and love) was a Remington PSS in .308. I cut my teeth on this gun and cartridge and still love it. I have since had the .260 Rem, 6.5X47 Lapua...

    Rifle Scopes Worth Keeping?

I just picked up a Remington Sendero 300 Ultra Mag from a local Pawn Shop with the intention of building my next project. It has a SWFA SS 10X scope with the side focus. I don't have any experience with this particular scope. My inital impression is that it seems to be a fairly well built...

    .338 Edge Build

After ALOT of searching I have come to a wall on my .338 Edge build. I have built other cartridges(.308, 6.5 Creedmore, .260 Rem and others) on both Remington and Savage actions. I have come to prefer Savage actions, but for this build I am stuck as what to do. I can't come up with a way to...

    .300 Blackout

Re: .300 Blackout The problem I have with the 6.8 is what brought me to the .300. The 6.8 is getting some hype right now, but what happens in two years or five years or whatever when something new comes that everyone decides is better than the 6.8 and suddenly no more 6.8 brass or ammo? The...

    Is 1 in 9 enough to stabilize 6.5C 140gr A-Max??

Re: Is 1 in 9 enough to stabilize 6.5C 140gr A-Max?? I have a .260 bolt guin with a 1:8 and it shoots the 140 VLD's at 2850 like no other. I tried some Federal factory .260's loaded with the 120gr BT and they were all over the place. I don't care much though because all I shoot are the 139...

Which semi-auto would you buy for an investment?

Re: Which semi-auto would you buy for an investment? I have to say the AUG. I have seen the Styers go nowhere but up the last years, and if Obama does what he claims he is going to do the imported stuff is going to go off the chart. Just look at what you could buy a HK91 or HK94 for in 1990...

    .300 Blackout

Re: .300 Blackout OK I was wondering about that. I know how sensative the 5.56 bullets are to twist so I assumed that the .300 would be the same. How are the Saturn barrels for accuracy and quality?
