    Rifle Scopes What's the REAL story on SWFA?

    They are all quite decent for the money, if not incorporating the latest technology. I'm using the 10X42 HD and am very pleased with it.

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    No doubt my post #70 wasn't well written and perhaps a bit too tongue-in-cheek. It was never intended as advice, just an observation about my own scope. My apologies for any confusion it may have caused. My final contribution to the discussion... Throughout this discussion we have NOT...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    My level is on the scope. My level is square to the reticle. It also happens to be square to the turret housing (which I take indicates the reticle is not canted in the scope). Not sure what I'm missing....

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    My scope level is dead-nuts square to my turret housing. When the bubble in my scope level is dead-nuts centered, my reticle is dead-nuts aligned to a plumb bob. Therefore my reticle is dead-nuts square to my turret housing. Life is good. /end thread

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    Without a doubt, we all suffer that same problem. Even a basic rifle with a $500 scope is far more capable than the majority of those who own and shoot them. I like Lowlight's analogy to driving a car. Like most other casual/recreational shooters, I don't spend even a tiny fraction of the...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    So, you can "only afford" to buy S&B? Even NightForce only guarantees no worse than .5 degree reticle offset. Unless you have taken the time to actually evaluate your scopes, you'll never know if the reticles are canted or not (assuming you know how to do so). "Buy good equipment and be done...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    @ Nik H - Yes, having the reticle installed by the manufacturer perfectly square with the turrets makes life MUCH easier! We expect that from a quality scope but unfortunately we don't always get that. Another link of interest -...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    Great conversation! There is so much muddy water around this topic I think many get lost in the logic. In regards to my last post... If the scope is installed with the turret housing perfectly square to the rail (and assuming the rail is square to the receiver), then positioning the rifle...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    So in summary; If shooting using dialed-in elevation corrections, the scope should be installed by leveling by the turret housing to ensure accurate tracking. The scope level should be installed square to the turret housing. If shooting using hold-over, the scope should be leveled by the...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    @ ThePretzel, I understand what you're saying. See post #12 here - http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/using-scope-turret-to-level-scope-fail.6595494/ Leveling scope by the reticle housing flat on the bottom of the scope is the correct method. I wouldn't count on the turret caps being...

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    The reticle is what needs to be leveled, not the elevation turret. A video by Vortex worth watching;

    Rifle Scopes Scope leveling

    To expand a bit on my post above... I prefer to set up the rifle with the scope perfectly aligned vertically with the bore axis. In this case, outside of exterior forces, the trajectory of the bullet will remain perfectly centered in the line of sight. As explained above, if the scope and bore...

    Rifle Scopes Seekins rings question

    To verify, mount ring on the rail being used and measure. Not all "Picatinny rails" are the same;
