Lapua Ammo Lot numbers, most important numbers to match up

If you had a lot that shot especially well, the only way to find another like it is to test different lots to see how they shoot. Of course it's hard to know whether the lot is especially good or not until there are other results against which comparisons can be made. It may be reasonable...

    22 LR Mach Trimming

Shooters, especially those coming from centerfire, have always desired improved .22LR ammunition. Too often the nature of related discussions convey the impression that .22LR development has remained mired in the past and its performance largely unchanged and unimproved. This isn't the case...

Chronograph comparison, Garmin, LabRadar, Shooting Chrony

Not all chronographs -- certainly the more affordable optical ones -- are equal. Perhaps this includes some such as this particular Garmin, despite its use of doppler radar. It's not as though the Garmin is a "high priced" device.

    22 LR Mach Trimming

With Longshot's point that the smaller groups are smaller MOA-wise only, it's important to note that when convergence does occur, it's a random consequence, one that's relatively unusual, and unexpected. In other words, they are an unpredictable outcome that can't be produced on demand...

    22 LR Mach Trimming

Litz says that at just above the speed of sound, the drag on a .22LR bullet increases enough to cause it to slow down faster than than a round that is below the speed of sound. The result of this is that ES of sample of shots fired downrange will be less beginning at about 30 yards or so than...

New ELEY Ultra Extreme Long Range Round incoming

Easier said than done. Reloading may be a good a solution when a reloader can load to similar standards as Eley and the other match ammo makers. Among current problems is that top quality pre-primed cases of are not available and crimping methods are often too inconsistent.

New ELEY Ultra Extreme Long Range Round incoming

Perhaps the bullet used in this "new" ammo is a bullet already in use with other Eley varieties. While RWS Plus Long Range (and the rebranded Norma equivalent) have a new bullet design, Lapua Long Range and SLR use the same bullet as CX, M+, and X-Act. It outdoes RWS and Lapua in the naming...

Lapua Ammo Lot numbers, most important numbers to match up

As 1813Benny says, when looking for the same lot all the numbers must be the same. It's worth keeping in mind that the size (number of rounds) of .22LR match ammo lots often makes finding more of a particular lot impossible. Typically the higher the grade, the smaller the size of the lot...

Expected Accuracy for Range/Practice Rimfire Ammo (outside at 50, 100, 200)

Consistent results are not to be expected, especially as distance increases. Consistent results can be elusive with top tier grades of match ammo. Lesser grades of match-type .22LR ammo -- the entry level kinds -- generally don't produce consistent results. For example, a few ten shot groups...

Effects of bore quality on ES and SD???

Stev0, one barrel is always faster than the other, not mostly or sometimes. I regret the confusion as well as saying anything.

Effects of bore quality on ES and SD???

For the single use of the word "consistently" in the sentence, you would have always preferred to see it as "...one is consistent faster than the other"? If that's the case, now you have it. ;)

Effects of bore quality on ES and SD???

I have two rifles from the same manufacturer with barrels of the same length. With the same lots of ammo one is consistently faster than the other. The slower barrel is about 50 years older but shoots just as well as the newer.

    Can someone explain this?

The SK PM results had nothing to do with it being a so-called pistol round. Pistol Match is made on the same production run as SK Rifle Match and SK Standard Plus using the same components including powder. What should be kept in mind is that SK ammos are entry level .22LR match ammos which...

The whole box at 100 yards

The first time I shot 50 at 100, the results were surprising. Below is the target, with two obvious outliers. The widest outside-to-outside measurement was 1.709" -- or about 1.5". (Edit: that's about 1.5" center-to-center.) I've tried 50 at 100 on a couple of other occasions without...

    Old Anschutz .22 Garden gun

The Flobert I action was used on inexpensive Anschutz models. Part of the stamping visible in one of the pictures in the OP has "Cal. 22 long r". If the complete stamping is 22 long rifle, the firearm should be good for .22LR ammo. In this case it will have a rifled barrel, not a smoothbore...
