When I tried that (bright sunshine, very dark background) the reticle turned a dull red. It was enough to pick it out, but not *great*. I was just holding the scope though, it might be a bit easier with it mounted, and a firm cheek weld.- Helter

on (IIRC) mine, every illumination level is followed by an off position. the off positions are marked by dots, the on positions are marked by their illumination level.- Helter
