Mine came with the rail too and it mounts between the sights so you don't have to remove sights to mount it. However I had to file out a notch on my rail to allow my aimpoint base to fit. The rail comes with rounded notches and my base has a square bar and wouldn't fit. But to answer your...

I found a cheap birch wood one and just that. Cut it down @2" to fit my boy, I let him run the sander (for a while) then he chose a metalic blue spray can to finish it in after I primed it. I had about $18 in the stock and paint and he has a rifle that he says he built. Priceless.

Looks great . Mine still has that greenish /aqua blue stock and I can't stand it. Thanks for your ideas and examples.
