    Looking to build a .308

Thumbs up to both Mo and ducks. Get a 10FCP(if you can't find one on GunsAmerica, GunBroker, or Bud's Gun Shop, just special order it through a local FFL). Once you get it, put 5K rounds through it. Learn the ways of the 175gr SMK, 178 gr AMAX. 168s should be looked at as optional, for 1k...

    Accurizing a wooden stock

Look up Richard Franklin's website. He has a dvd about beddding wood stocks that is second to none. Stress free pillar bedding http://store.richardscustomrifles.com/ As for finishing the stock out: How to do the World's best oil finish (using Miniwax Antique Oil finish) How to do the...

Gunsmithing New Remington, sorta like Savage?

The entire industry is going modular, and Remington has the perfect rifle to do that with in the form of the MSR..... and they aren't going to make it available for non-government purchases. This Savage clone does not inpress.

    1:10 vs 1:12 for 30-06 Shooting 168, 175 SMK's

/\THIS./\ Why would you limit yourself to 175s with a 30-06? You don't start to gain anything over a .308 until you push 190s or heavier. So yes, go with a 1/10.

Is the M1A a Good Rifle?

I think the sweet spot with SA is the loaded. You get the medium barrel and the trigger job, everything else can be done at your pleasure. If you're gonna spend more than that then definitely have a gun built with a Criterion barrel on a forged receiver. I'm just building a more accurate...

    M1A "M14" in 6.5x47 Lapua

Krieger would be your best bet for the barrel. 6.5 or 7mm shouldn't be a problem since it's just a matter of contouring a blank and they are already setup for it. Use the Shuster adjustable gas plug OR possibly a Sadlak national match cutout piston specifically designed for use with 168 and...

Is the M1A a Good Rifle?

You are REALLY going to have to define what you mean by "good". You cannot make an m1 platform rifle accurate enough to consistently group inside a dime. An M110 will do that with FGM or M118LR. What you CAN do with a M1 platform rifle is make an accurate fighting rifle that will keep you...

    m1a build recommendations

Your first post indicated that you wanted a shorter barrel, so still assuming there. If not disregard. You're going to be replacing a bunch of parts anyway, so those are built in to your price calculations on the build whatever you decide( stock, welded gas cylinder, forged op rod). If you...

    m1a build recommendations

I'm gonna go against the trend here - in an auto I want one thing above all else, and that one thing is that when I pull the trigger gun go bang and cycle another round. I have low expectations for autos, I just want them to work. I have used five different M16's in desert sand, and they...

    Remington wins the PSR,

From the begining I looked at the MSR and knew that it was going to win. It was the most polished package, sexiest looks, American made - and from the perspective of a line grunt my reaction is "how about NO." There are something like 20 screws to lose on this thing(armorer's ordering...

    280 Ackley Improved Build

Re: 280 Ackley Improved Build There's also the question of where you intend to source your brass. If you plan to fireform from 30-06, that requires it's own reamer IIRC. If you intend just to buy brass then disregard.

    m1a accuracy

Re: m1a accuracy You don't buy an m1 for group size. You buy one because it won't fail you in the field. Also, there are much better makers out there than SA. LRB comes to mind. If you are definitely going to bolt on some glass, the LRB M25 barreled action is the way to go hands down.
