Nosler's new 6.5 mm cartridge
Barrel life issues can be addressed with cryogenically and chemically treating the steel or coating in Melonite to extend the life of the bore, throat, chamber, etc. There's also chrome plating, but that's considered old school, now, I think. Lightest/shortest 300 Blackout AR?
Have you thought about a MSAR bullpup? It'll give you more barrel length in a shorter weapon than most standard carbines. MSAR OAL is 27.2'' with an 18.5'' barrel An M4 carbine with a 14.5'' bbl and retracted stock is still longer at 29.75''- JD0x0

6.5 Grendel v .300 Blackout
6.5 has decent subsonic choices. Lee makes a 175 grain SWC in .265'' perfect for subsonic work in a 6.5mm. Also 160 grain round nose bullets aren't too hard to find. A 175 grain .264 cal projectile has roughly the same sectional density as a 240 grain .308 cal projectile.- JD0x0
