“How do you know there is no carbon in the barrel! Borescope? “ Sorry, missed this. Yes, a borescope is the only way to be sure.

Heres a good video on cleaning. Both respected competitors.

Agree. Also in PRS you could be kneeling, standing behind a barricade, or in some other awkward position after running to the stage with elevated breathing and heart rate. I’m too old for that, I shoot F-Class. But if was young and shooting PRS I would put much more time in practicing stages...

Rifle Competition Events Cleaning for Competitions

I would say we need to differentiate between competitors and intended use of rifle. You are probably right about PRS shooters. They don’t need the precision level of F-Class or BR. I don’t mean this in a demeaning way because some PRS stages are at an unknown distance and error in ranging...

Rifle Competition Events Cleaning for Competitions

My philosophy: clean to get all of the carbon out, especially the ring just ahead of the neck in the chamber which leads to higher pressures and precision loss. consistency is key. If you think about it, starting with a clean carbon-free bore is a baseline for accuracy. With a dirty barrel...

F-Class (FTR) match, 1000 yd LR Regional Championships at Oak Ridge. 308 with SEB Joypod and SEB Bigfoot heavy rear bag with jewell trigger @ 4 oz. Six shots into match. I lay a round onto ramp of chamber, make wind call, close the bolt and finger brushes trigger. BANG! Waiting for my scorer...

    Case cleaning

Agree. I tumble with dry media only to get rid of the dirt/crud that would harm my expensive dies. Shiny brass does not add to precision.

    Ingenuity Powder System

This is the first I’ve heard of Printed Precision. A Quick Look at the Printed Precision web page indicates that the design is a copy of Paul’s Disk trickler. Not much info there.

    Variation in seating depth

“Usually 'better bullets' or 'does it actually matter on your target?' are the go-to solutions here.” ^^^I believe this is important. Good bullets like Berger have a consistent ogive with minimal variation. They’re not perfect but they’re the best I’ve found. Also, it’s important to have...

    Ingenuity Powder System

If Paul could get his new system out today, that meets his standards, he would. I expect he is having supplier issues. I would rather have Paul wait to get the system right, and meet his quality standards, than release it in a hurry with quality and reliability issues.

Quick Shot Challenge: What’s the dumbest shooting myth you’ve heard?

Haha. You’re enamored with the fake line in the sky

Quick Shot Challenge: What’s the dumbest shooting myth you’ve heard?

Really? What happens when you point the barrel up?

    Sooty case neck

Carbon Soot on the neck does not necessarily mean you have a problem. There is good soot (sine pattern) and bad soot (black smudge line further down the neck all the way around and even as far down as the shoulder or a clear horizontal carbon soot line just below case mouth) Wavy marks (many...

    tight chamber?

This is good advice but it is doubtful that a gunsmith is going to admit his reamer is crap and volunteer to chamber a new barrel for you at his expense unless it is a GAP rifle. George Farmer would fix it. The 22GT is not a recognized SAAMI cartridge and reamers and headspace gauges for this...

    Vertical Strings

Inconsistent recoil management can cause this. Make sure the rifle is held into your shoulder with the same pressure for each shot. As you pull back on the rifle grip with your bottom three fingers of your trigger hand, make sure this pressure is the same shot after shot.
