I really like the Hornady Amax 168gr offerings... shoots better than FGMM in my rifle. 1/2 MOA or better. FGMM is more affordable, but after I started reloading I stuck with the 168gr AMAX bullet as the BC is better than the Sierra 168.
Good call on the primers from Winchester, I didn’t know that… I suspect the cup of the brass may have developed a small crease from the seating operation giving the gas a path of least resistance. At least mechanically that seems like a plausible way of getting into a situation like that...
+ 1 on feeler gauges... get 2 sets. rail is flat and so is the bottom of the scope body. Similar to what you would do with the SPUHR kit, shim it level.
The 6-24x PST has better than average glass but its not amazing. IMO the PST line is about balance, they offer a nice set of features, great turrets, reasonable glass, and at a fair/competitive price. Its more than adequate for getting the job done, but once you move into the multi-k glass its...
tagged Cant wait to check out this optic in person. Looks like everything I've been wanting in an optic. I've gotten some amazing deals on my PST scopes in the past, I wonder how long before the prices get a little looser.
+1 for TiborasaurusRex vids... Thanks for the history lesson too, I learned a few things from that. I love my SWFA SS scopes... For the price of their fixed power non HD scopes, there really isn't a reason NOT to try one. I picked up the fixed 10x but I very much enjoy my 5-20 SS HD too...
I have a 5-20x and a 6-24x scope both in FFP and I use the entire magnification range… I use max magnification a lot for range estimation, checking targets, and load development at 100 yards. I enjoy being able to use the reticle for hold over shooting regardless of the magnification, which I...
I regularly shoot in the desert where it’s typically 80F to 100F and haven’t had an issue with grease making itself present on the reticle. Often times the rifle and scope sit in the car where it bakes in direct sunlight too before use. I’m just going to chock it up to bad luck, and someone...
That’s still pretty good… Personally I don’t know if I would have done printing and a barrel swap with a rifle shooting .5 to .75 MOA… but I’m a bit frugal when it comes to things like that. My SPS Tactical shoots a solid .5 MOA and that type of work will only come once I see an accuracy drop...
I own 4 PST scopes and never had an issue like this including with my 6-24x FFP... The 4-16x PST I didn't like as I found the optics to be less than desirable compared to the rest of the PST line but never any issues like you described. Maybe someone on the shop floor got heavy handed with the...
The Vortex Razor is a solid scope... I prefer the 1x of the Razor to the 1x of the SWFA 1-6x. Less pincushion / fisheye effect and easier to use with both eyes open. Its not until they came out with the Gen II Razor scopes with the VMR (MOA/MIL) reticles I expressed any real interest...
That was the first 1-4x that I used... It’s a solid scope, but its old, and in today’s market there are soo many more options and players than you can get more scope at a more competitive price.
I like the SWFA more than the Vortex… Seems to be better built / construction Illumination is brighter so I get more daylight visible settings than the PST SWFA is FFP so 1x vs 6x you get two very different reticles to use. Optically the SWFA is very good, almost at ACOG level. Turrets are...
My experiences are about the same as yours. I have the 6-24x and in the 12x to 16x range is very clear and crisp... once you start moving to the 20-24x area it does get foggier, but its still completely usable.
