Best Rem 5R mod you made

Re: Best Rem 5R mod you made Not enough grip length on the original stock for me, so I replaced that with the McMillan and had it pillar bedded. Added the Williams btm metal and Murphy rail (opened hoes to 8x40) Cut bbl to 16.5" (for the sandstorm.) Tuned the trigger, but that should...

    Gunsmithing what to polish?

Re: what to polish? Mold stones are really the only way to polish the raceways of the action and still keep them straight. I've seen an action polishing bar (from Brownell's?) that you wrapped sandpaper around, but I don't see it being as accurate as the mold stones. They will break...

    Gunsmithing Scope Installation... opinions needed.

I always square my scopes to the bore (typically off the bases). As I was installing the scope on this action, however, I noticed that the base is not square to the raceway cuts... So... which way would you go? Square the scope to the rail or the raceways of the action?

My silencer transfer was received on June 5, and I just called to check up on it. They said it was approved on Aug 4! Dealer said he had not received the paperwork back yet, but it should be here just any day now.

    Gunsmithing Scope Mounting with Epoxy

Re: Scope Mounting with Epoxy I hadn't thought of the rear-view mirror glue, but I bet it is stout stuff. Sinclair and Brownells both make lapping bars. I use the Sinclair with 600grit lapping compound.

    Gunsmithing Scope Mounting with Epoxy

I mentioned in a thread recently that I epoxied my scopes in place when I mounted them (I'm sure that raised some eyebrows.) I was mounting one yesterday and thought I would explain how I do it... I'm sure it's nothing new to some, but others may glean some information from the post. 1) Lap...
