im fed up with my .338

It took me quite some time to work the bugs out of my 338LM when I first got it. I have only used 300gr Scenars, but tried N560, Magpro and Retumbo. At first, I was getting some real ugly results and was very discouraged with the rifle. However, after much load testing, having my action properly...

Gunsmithing anybody know what this is?

Thanks, Turd in the Pool. I think I have had this box out in my garage for about 12 years now and have been reluctant to get rid of it because I thought it might be useful to someone. I actually knew the guy for about 15 years before he died and I knew he had some cool fishing equipment, so I...

Gunsmithing anybody know what this is?

Several years ago, I bought a couple of lots of items at the estate sale of a guy who had been a gunsmith. I actually bought fishing equipment, but there was a tackle box thrown into the lot that seems to contain some sort of gunsmithing tools. At least I suspect them to be related to...

    Remington 721

Yes, I agree that it's not a problem unless it actually breaks and for my intended use of the rifle, I doubt it will get enough use to break. My question is simply because I'm curious to know which type of extractor would be the best replacement if a person were to replace one. I figure that if...

    Remington 721

I recently purchased a 721 action 30-06, all original. This was sort of an impulse buy just because I was looking for a very inexpensive 30-06 to play with and the price was right on this rifle. After purchasing, I did a little research on the 721 and discovered that they've had safety issues as...

    Mailing a firearm

I have shipped rifles several times by UPS and once by FedEx. Neither of them required that it be sent by one-day shipping. UPS was always easy to deal with. I just declared that there was a rifle in the box and they asked if any ammo was in there with it. No other questions asked. At my local...

    Accidents

This may belong in the stupid questions forum, but I thought it might be more likely to reach knowledgeable people here in the reloading forum. I'm just curious to know what your experiences are with people having a rifle blow up in their face. I know all the warnings about being extra careful...

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

For anyone interested, I have spoken with Kevin Thomas from Lapua and he has explained to me that these grooves are known as "fractures" and are a normal result of the forming process. The reason I have not seen them before is that they can be visible or not according to the hardness of jacket...

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

I do intend to shoot the ones that I've already loaded and I know how my rifle normally performs with this load, so I should be able to tell if accuracy is as good as with non-blemished bullets. Although it seems like a small thing to be concerned with, I just imagine those grooves creating...

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

I'd say that 99% of shots I take with this rifle are far beyond 600 yards, so I'm concerned about the difference it will make out to a mile. If these are swaging marks, I'm still wondering why they get past quality control at the factory. I realize that some say they are normal and won't make a...

    powder funnels

the Satern funnels are caliber specific and, therefore, fit the neck tightly enough that there is no wobble.

    powder funnels

I used plastic for a while and then bought Satern Funnels. My plastic funnels never get used anymore.

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

Here's a pic of some 300 grain Scenars from an older lot that do not have formation lines or gilding lines. They are badass accurate and I wish they still made them like that! Maybe the formation lines won't affect performance, but I would prefer to have mine smooth like the old ones.

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

I had ordered a large quantity of these bullets in the past, so they are an older lot and none of them have these gouges in them. I still have some and they are completely smooth. If this is a design change, I don't understand why they're doing it. They are deep enough that they will catch on...

Bad lot of Lapua Scenar 300 grain bullets

The gouges are difficult to see in the photo I put in the initial post, so I'm going to try again and see if I can post a pic so you guys can see what I'm talking about. I just can't get my camera to focus very close-up, so the gouges aren't showing up very well in my photos. Every bullet in the...
