Seen lots of shootings in 25 years of state police work, stay with BUCKSHOT or SLUGS if you want incapacitation. My carry is Federal Trueball slugs or Flightcontrol Buckshot for a reason.
Join the army, enlist for a SOCOM slot and ask to go surreptitious entry training at Ft Meade, MD, take a locksmithing course, or play on you tube watching lots of videos. You might get SERE school while you are in training cycle.

GO to a gun shop and pick up and handle all of the pistols listed and the one that feels good in you hand is the winner. Make sure the PPS is in the selection a few friends carry them and they are small.
I have 229s (9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG) and have been issued 229s and 228s. I am old so none of them have rails. I would take the 229 in .40 S&W and a .357 Sig Barrel from KKM for it (My carry if expecting trouble at work) .40 S&W shoot well but the .357 Sig will shoot half the size groups...
