    Army M24 Build Thread

Yep, proxibid just layers their fee on top of the RIA fee. I’ve never understood why anyone would pay that much extra to go through them.

    Army M24 Build Thread

Yes, the buyer's premium is 17.5% if you buy in person or with an early bid. 18.5% if you use their on-line platform. Plus, tax and credit card fees if applicable. It was interesting to see one guy buy all three of those items!

    Army M24 Build Thread

Those M24's actually sold yesterday. The one leased to the Army hammered at $14,000 which I thought was really low for a documented sniper rifle. The black Remington rebuild with full deployment kit hammered at $8,500. The Mk11 Mod 0 contract overrun with Mk11 suppressor in the foreground...

    Mk 13 Mod 0 stock

It hammered at $8500, I was surprised it didn't go higher.

    Sniper Rifles on RIA

I went to the RIA preview yesterday and looked at a lot of nice vintage snipers. Ryan has several nice ones listed. His Krag sniper is a beauty. He had several others as well. The M24's and Mk11 Mod 0 aren't his though.

M14 barrel fouling in start of rifling

That is odd. I assume you're talking about a Springfield Armory, Inc rifle. The barrel would have been manufactured in the late 1950's or 1960's. They did use a lot of USGI barrels in earlier years, but I thought most were new old stock barrels. It is possible that it was a used barrel that was...

M14 barrel fouling in start of rifling

Is it possible that the barrel had more than the 1000-1200 rounds through it? Barrels would usually have a significantly higher rounds count before you would see barrel flaking, usually over 5000 rounds.

M14 barrel fouling in start of rifling

Here are a couple pictures of chrome flaking.

M14 barrel fouling in start of rifling

If the barrel has the drawing number 7790190 near the manufacturer name, then it is a chrome lined barrel. It is common for chrome lined barrels to flake in that location after thousands of rounds.

M14 barrel fouling in start of rifling

My first reaction was that it looked like the chrome flaking in a USGI chrome plated barrel. What barrel is it?

    USMC Unertl MST-100/150 scope covers

Thanks for posting the pictures, I hadn't seen either of those scope covers. There were two types of scope covers that were with the Unertl scopes that were sent to the CMP for sale. There were a few that had the Devtron Scopecoat covers and some that had Butler scope caps or paint patterns...

USMC Unertl locking in the parallax on the objective

Your description makes me think that something could be assembled wrong. I don't know how that would be possible though. The best thing to do would be to compare it to another Unertl and see what is going on. Some pictures might help.

Remington RACS top rail screws too short? Will it be an issue?

The screws on my XM2010 rail to receiver have a thread length of 3/8 inch: #8-40x3/8 T-15.

    M40 stocks are these original

I own the rifle in the last picture. I would recognize that picture anywhere! The stock was a "Dep Taylor" stock which was finished and set up with correct sling swivels and butt plate.

It's been fun, but it's time for me to move on

Ryan: About 25+ years ago I bought a pistol from an older collector who was selling off his collection. He shared his perspective on collecting and later selling off his collection. He said that as he built up his collection, he got to enjoy the search for items and learning the history and...
