New Savage 12 LRP 260 Rem

I had. Was trying to draw similarities prior to posing my question about lapping this "factory barrel". Thank you for all your input.

New Savage 12 LRP 260 Rem

I too have a Mod 12 LRP in 260 Rem with good scope, bipod, and averageish skills? With just over 200 rounds through, it groups around 3/4 moa at 100yds with occasional flyers (one every 4 or 5?) out 1 1/2 or 2". Has that same rough in appearance rifling (looks like fine machine thread) copper...

    O.A.L vs C.O.A.L.

Simpler than I though. OAL and COAL mean the same thing. When measuring base to ogive, you say so. Headspace measured base to datum point (of your chosing) on shoulder to compare before and after resizing. Thank you all, esp KYpatriot for total clarity.

    O.A.L vs C.O.A.L.

After an approximate 30 year hiatus from reloading, I am on the verge of diving back in. I am a bit confused about measuring, and hope some in the know can clear this up. First, not sure what the letters in the acronyms stand for. Overall length of round measured tip of bullet to base. This...

My first "Sniper" and 100% newbie.

One mil = 3.438moa, so a 20moa base = around 5.8mil. (20 divided by 3.438) So if you start with reticle centered and dial down elevation turet 5.8mil, you should be able to pull out the bolt and sight down bore, centering target and then look through scope and be very close. Another perk to a...

    SW AMMO UPDATE THREAD

Received 200 rounds of 260 Rem 142SMKs in Lapua brass back in March of this year and they run really well for me. Been looking for more and was wondering if you will ever offer them again? Me and a couple others sure hope so...

Rifle Scopes Anybody in the seattle area know where to buy scope rings locally?

Have you looked into American Rifle Company? I believe they are just 25 or 30 miles north of Seattle. I recently acquired a set of 35mm M-10s and am quite pleased. Call during the week and owner will probably answer, forgot his name, he can give you info about what is available etc. his #...

    Rifle Scopes Is this normal?

I wonder if the ocular lens might be mounted slightly cocked/untrue/not parallel with the ocular housing? Don't have time to check right now, wifey thinks I am in the shower getting ready to go out for evening...

Rifle Scopes Mount a scope upside down???

Watching TV the other night and noticed a scope mounted upside down. Show was called Flashpoint, a weekly drama about a SRU (strategic response unit) that deals with hostage type situations... First caught my eye when I noticed the reticle ilum. knob underneath, and then saw the top of the...

Advanced Marksmanship Shooting Skills: Sniper vs Competition Shooters

Couple weeks back a newly acquired acquaintance of mine told me he was a "scout/observer" back when he was in the USMC. I asked if he was also a sniper, and he acted a little nervouse but said "no, a scout/observer" or maybe a scout/forward observer. I then asked if he shot long range much and...

    Newbie checking in

I believe dry fireing a center fire is ok, but rim fire is not. Will someone with knowledge of accuracy of this statement and an explanation of why/why not please chime in before this "eager to dry fire every day" shooter assumes it ok?

Advanced Marksmanship bore-center to scope-center measurement - VITAL to long range shooting solutions

Forgot to add that I try to relax upper body as I lay into rifle loading the bipod. I do know that some times I don't relax as much, and that would increase recoil resistance and could explain some of the differences I find in group size etc.

Advanced Marksmanship bore-center to scope-center measurement - VITAL to long range shooting solutions

I have two questions: Where do you measure? Is it in line with the chamber vent hole, in line with the turrets, in line with where the bullet would be when chambered? These will all be different with a say, 20moa base yes? Ok, the difference is very slight so who cares really, which leads me...
