    My buddy, F-Class John (youtube) did a comprehensive, systematic and detailed review of pretty much every viable option out there. He (and I) ended up with Fix-it Stix. I love mine...having tried numerous others.

    Short action Elk rounds

    6.5x47 Lapua with 140 Berger Hybrids = Elk Poison. Place your shot. Nothing bigger needed. Compared to the destruction of say, a 300 WSM or a .340 Weatherby...the 6.5x47 will deliver the needed punch with much less carnage to the meat.

    My kid took down an elk at 300+ yards using an Alex Wheeler-built 6.5x47 Lapua, with a 20" barrel and 130 grain Berger Hybrids. One shot. The elk took two steps and keeled over stone dead. All about shot placement. If you have it (and a reliable rifle like Alex builds), that's plenty of fire...
