    22" 7mm Mag Barrel

Re: 22" 7mm Mag Barrel All I have for my build so far is a stainless steel rem 700 long action with a mag bolt. Since I have not bought the barrel yet, I guess there is still an option to change the cartridge. If I were to get a 280 barrel, could I still use my mag bolt? Or would I have to...

    22" 7mm Mag Barrel

Re: 22" 7mm Mag Barrel Thanks a lot for the help guys. I have always been interested in the 280 Rem but ammo seems a little hard to come by compared to the 7 mag. I guess I would have to stay with a 24" barrel to keep any "magnum" performance. I see that Lilja barrels has a .525" final...

    22" 7mm Mag Barrel

I am building a lightweight mountain rifle and I have decided to go with the 7mm Mag cartridge. Since low weight is a main concern I wanted to go with a 22" barrel. Has anyone noticed a difference (major drop in velocity) in shooting the 7 Mag with a 22" vs a 24-26"? I found an article that...

Who Makes the Lightest Stock for a Rem 700?

I am starting the process of building a rifle for Dall/Big Horn Sheep and wanted to know who makes the lightest stock out of all the manufactures like McMillian, MCI, Lone Wolf etc. Are there any durability problems with ultra light rifle stocks? Thanks.

    243 Win Barrel length

Re: 243 Win Barrel length I believe the faster twist rate is needed to compensate for the shorter barrel length. For example the 18.5" XM3 uses a 10 twist vs the 24" M40 and M24 with 11.25 twist. Not 100% on this, just an observation.

    Gunsmithing Refinishing Timing?

Re: Refinishing Timing? I have not decided on a builder yet, but I like Bijou Creek. I know the cost of the rifle would be more due to extra shipping. I guess the reasoning for the individual refinishing prior to the build would be just in case water gets under the sight for what ever...

    Gunsmithing Refinishing Timing?

I am just waiting on a few parts to complete what needed to build my 458 Lott hunting rifle. I want the rifle to completely weather proof no questions asked. The Rem. 700 Action, Shilen Barrel, Dakota Bottom Metal are all stainless steel. The stock is a synthetic HS precision stock. The rear...
