That might be an issue, the Scout has a 12" LOP, the Lux would be the next best bet for open sights, with a 13.75" LOP. You could probably coax and extra 1/2"-1" with recoil pads/spacers until it's time to go full size. The iron sight requirement is going to be more limiting than LOP. You can...

The scout is a great option. You can always swap it to a full-size stock or chassis when he grows out of the smaller stock and you can even easily swap out to heavier/longer barrels if he shows interest in benchrest or precision shooting.

Don't ask us, ask your rifle. Make a date with it, buy a charcuterie board of mid-to high quality ammo and see what happens.

It doesn't matter what the sale price is, MSRP is $1087.49 and MSRP is what the rules call for. This is a good example of why chasing Base Class can really hobble you when it comes down to gear. There truly is only a handful of rifle/scope options one can purchase to fit in the box.

I use both Ruger BX-1 mags and TandemKross Double Kross Mags. No cycling issues at all. I run a lot of CCI Clean 22 and Norma Tac 22.
