I am motivated to become a better marksman/shooter, build better positions, better all comp scores, measure my successes against my peers, and meet my goal of going distinguished in rifle in the next two years. After that, I'll move on to pistol.

Well aware :) I'm shooting for leg points at an EIC match this weekend. With a nod to Lanny, I need to correct my previous statement: The marksman (or, especially, the sniper), is only as good as his NEXT shot.

There is no dichotomy. The marksman is only as good as his last shot. In regards to the overall question of shooting skills (sniper vs. competitive shooter): it's not an either/or, it's a both - and. The best do both. Shooting is just shooting.

This shit belongs in Maggie's Drawers, not advanced marksmanship..

Seeing this photo reminded me of this thread. Check it out, obviously all the targets are identical, but some bulls appear larger and some smaller: which ones appear smaller? Then I went back, reread my post above and realized I got the effect of light reversed in explanation.. mea...

Also check the CMP & NRA websites to see what competitions are being held. Your time frame is a little out yet for most matches, though.. Don't pass up Perry if things are kosher. I'm sure Thunder Valley Precision will have a match damn near every weekend during your time frame. Your buddy...

Shooters, it was a pleasure being an RO for this match: through at times unusual and difficult stages, everyone moved along efficiently and safely, and had good friendly camaraderie. Really made the day go fun and fast. I know everyone learned and took away some good lessons, including me...

The only ticks that are out in force are the plethora you hear in the process of dialing in obscene windage. Unwrap the pantyhose from around your legs, come on out, shoot, and learn. Or keep it on, if you're really that afraid of ticks..
