Yeah I will have to try MSC, I haven't ordered new ones yet, I just pointed them. With a tolerance of +.001 -.000 I just wanted to chase them after about 90% cut. Using HHS 60 degree inserts helps but still want to chase to finish.
I ordered 4 things from Brownell's recently that I was less than impressed with, taps and dies. I ordered a tap and die each for 1/2" 28 and 5/8" 24, to the tune of almost $120 after shipping. Manufacturer was listed as Brownell's. Having some confidence in them, now lost, I accepted the cost as...
Re: machining a giant scope ring for my spotting scope
Any machinist should be able to make a 1/4" thick, or so, sheet with two holes bored out to the right diameter that was cut in half to "clamp the two into. Would take MAYBE an hour on a manual machine

I live in SE Idaho. I am a machining student at ISU. There aren't any programs in this area for gunsmithing, not even any small 1 or 2 day courses. Armores classes pop up every now and then, mostly for the police unfortunately. A few gunsmiths in the area do...
