I’ve got an Eotech EXPS3 mounted in front of a 5x magnifier. I’m looking for options of mounting a thermal in front of this. Is this even a possibility? I already have a Pulsar Trail XP50 scope on another rifle. Is it as simple as mounting this in front of the Eotech?

I threw my Hogster-C in front of a Eotech and 3x, and it works. Kind of, field of view is small without the magnifier, with the 3x even smaller.

Since you can get a thermal with a QD, why not swap sights instead of clip on? Below is a Hogster 35mm, Cheaper too!

Clip on in front of Eotech and magnifier is poor performance, better to swap the Eotech for a thermal when needed. Mine has the Bobro QD mount, very repeatable POI.

That’s obviously the best option, just to swap sights. And I can do that easily since my thermal scope is on a quick disconnect mount now. I just don’t want the hassle of rezeroing it every time I switch optics.

5x is a lot for the lower cost and smaller footprint options. Using a clipon with a wider field of view means you’d be throwing away a lot of the image outside of what the 5x magnifier can see. There’s some footage of what the VooDoo-S looks like through a 3x towards the end of my video here.

That’s got a 15deg horizontal FoV, so I’d be looking for something in the 5-10deg range if you really wanted to use the 5x. The SY-C or AGM TC50 might be decent, but sounds like Old Man above wasn’t a huge fan.

I can flip the 5x out of the way and just use the hologram in front of the thermal, but I don’t know how useful that would be compared to just switching the optics out completely.

Thanks for that video. I like the view with the 3x. I’m going to try it with the 5x and see how it looks. The field of view in this scope is 16.3° vertical and 12.3° horizontal.

The eotech magnifier does not have the same FOV as a scope of the same power. The clip on is considerably farther away from the objective making the screen appear smaller.

If I'm understanding you correctly you're wanting to put your thermal scope in front of your eotech. This will most likely have poi issues and I doubt it has a function to compensate. You will need a clip on for this.

I use a Trijicon REAP IR and Leupold scope for daytime use and swap them over all the time and never have to rezero. I’m shooting 100 yards in tight timber so not shooting long shots. Whenever I recheck zero at the range, The zeros are good when I test out to 200 yards. I just mark the locations on the rail for mount points and use good quality QD mounts.
