XTR III Illuminated 3.3-18x50 - Anyone receive one yet that can compare to the US made non-illuminated version?

Looking for feedback on how these compare to the US made non-illuminated version (outside of the new one lights up). I thought they were to be shipping by now, but have not seen any comments regarding comparison. Looking for first hand experience to comment on initial perception of quality differences, if any.

They are working their way through QC..

They dont batch check these like some optics, where they inspect 5 or 10 out of 100. They inspect every one of these individually once they arrive in Greeley.

Can you give us an idea on how this inspection procedure works? ie: do they look at color charts, test tracking or something else?

Timeline for shipping? I’m in the pipeline with Cameraland

I know a little bit about it. I havent seen the process beginning to end. They do give the glass and tracking a pretty thorough testing. There is a functionality checklist that I believe is done while looking at objects outside unimpeded by glass.

I actually intend to see how each scope is inspected here in a couple weeks. I'm shooting the Koenig/Ruger match in Grand Junction on April 9th and 10th. On the 11th my buddy and I are driving up to Greeley to get a tour of the facility. Grab some dinner and beers with Burris people and catching a flight home out of Denver Monday night. I'm excited about it and I hope to learn more about how optics get from point A to point B.

I'm afraid I'm out of the loop for that...

My experience has been that it's something they don't rush, they don't seem to lean on those people to hurry. I suspect there's a good reason behind that. The answer would be they are in QC, they will ship when they are out of QC ..

Sorry I don't have more. I'm excited to see one as well. Hopefully I'll get to peek at one when I'm there.

I’m so close to getting a Colorado version x18 for a paper punching range gun. But the price is the same as a New illuminated x30….when they ship

How do this scope compare to the Vortex PST Gen 2 3-15 for anyone that has used both? I’ve never handled a Burris anything.
The current XTRIII is nicer than the PST in pretty much every important category.

The only question mark is at what level of quality will the Phillipines version compare to the US version. They are still sourcing the same glass from the same location, so the Phillipines plant just has to build it right. If they do that, there isn't a scope under $1500 that will be a better value.

Oh it's the same glass? I was worried when I saw the mfg switch to the Philippines if there would be a drop in quality. That's good to know!

I do have one of these now in the 5.5-30x. I.put it on my 300 Norma mag hunting rifle and ran off about 30 rounds.

Side by side with my other XTRIIIs I can find no difference in quality. And I can promise you my optic was not cherry picked. I was standing right there in Greeley when one of the managers fished it out of a pile of scopes and handed it to me.

The knurling still needs to be toned down, but other than that, everything else is on point. This is really going to be a phenomenal value at its price point.

Have the illuminated started shipping?

I bought 2 from Liberty Optics last night.... I was unaware they switched to the phillipines..... Hope I dont regret this decision.

I think Scott said in another thread that he had a few come in/coming in soon. I emailed Burris a few weeks ago and they said they've been shipping em out pretty consistently. I've got one on order from EuroOptic and they don't have any ETA to give me :(

From the preliminary reports, the Philippine version is supposed to be excellent as for as glass quality and should hit well above it's price point. I've been waiting since March 2022 for mine to ship..... got the 3-18 SCR-2 (mil) ordered so I'm getting a lesson in patience! I will post when I get a shipping notice and follow with a mini evaluation once it arrives.

Where did you order yours from?

I hope so, I had the first xtr3 and it was good to go. I’m selling my last mk5, and for what it cost, even after military discount from leupold, I still got these Burris scopes for $700 less a piece.

Mine is ordered directly from Burris. I had a warranty claim and was offered the option to upgrade since my previous scope was no longer available.

Just got confirmation that the Burris XTR III Illuminated 3.3-18x50mm SCR 2 #201204 is in route to us. Pre-orders will be filled and we have others left to sell.

Might want to revise that description for the illuminated version. I’m sure it’s an honest mistake left over from the non-illuminated version, but not everyone realizes that.

Since I don't have one of the US made models, I can't compare the two. But, compared to my Steiner Military 4-16 (German made), and several Leupold older Mk4s, it holds it's own very well. Resolution is better than my Vortex PST Gen 2 3-15x44 and the reticle (SCR2) on the XTR 3 is actually usable at the lowest power setting. These are preliminary observations. At this point it is hitting way past it's price point. Craftsmanship is what you would expect from a top tier manufacture, color rendition is accurate to my eyes. More to come once it's mounted up!
