Has anyone done a short 16-18” 6.5x47? I’ve always been intrigued by the cartridge. Of course, I could just do another 6.5cm.
Picked up a used PVA barrel on here and chopped it to 18”. Slapped this rifle together with some spare parts to see if I’ll like it. Getting 2700 with 130HVLD over 37gr Varget. I might pick up an 18” bartlein Carbon for it.

Finally got my first shorty 6.5 wrapped up. First 5 shot group after a little break in and zero was .53” with factory Prime 130 so should be a good little deer blind and range rifle.

Got my kid’s 18” .223 all finished up.

Some break in and quick load development led me to this.

Thats 5 shots, 100 yds.
Kinda slow speeds at 2625, but tight SDs. Not many rounds through it, so expecting some speed as time goes on.

Pics of rifle coming.
Rem 700, Brux 1/8, .223 Wylde chamber.
MDT LS XXL and MDT vertical grip with a Luth AR butt stock to get the needed 11” LOP. Seekins 20 MOA base and rings. Bushnell LRHS 3-12.

ETA: Shown below with .473 bolt, 6BR barrel, and a 6.5 creedmoor barrel in the plastic sleeve.
Kiddo is dry firing daily, really getting stuff down.

I think he needs a better scope. Don’t worry, I’ll take that one off your hands.

My kid is a girl. Tougher than most dudes on here.

She would kick you in the nuts and jam a thumb in your eye for trying to snag her scope.
And probably call you a commie.

You see, Im teaching her how to deal with boys. 😁
I had to try haha. I’m sure it’ll serve her well.

Mini Howa in .223 with 18" heavy barrel, and Primary Arms Glass.

Oddly enough, I was happy with the factory 20" barrel, but sold an old rifle, and wanted this one to fit into my leftover AIM Tactical drag bag... Boom, it had to lose 2" off the barrel because I wanted to keep the suppressor mount.

That AIM bag looks nice.

Gonna snag one for my kids new rifle.

And a 2 barrel sleeve and bolt holder set from softcock on here. Looks there would be room for them on there.

All I have are 175’s right now. They are running 2450.

Have 150 and 162 eld’s on back order

Nice, I dig M70s, and would like a shorty 7mm-08, that bottom rig speaks to me. Are you running the factory 9.5 twist tube? If so, are you getting good stability with long 175s? If it's been re-barreled, who did you have do it?

GAP Gladus Short Barrel, Manners Folder
308 168 SMK, RL15 41 Grains, New Winchester Brass from the 90's

First set is from a cold barrel, Sierra Load Data says 41.1 grains yields 2440 in their phone app.
Not much of a loss for the 18 inches.

Great looking rifle!

Travis is currently spinning up a 18" barrel for my Mausingfield, so I'll finally be able to participate in this thread with my own addition soon.

Going with 6.5 Creedmoor chambered for Hornady 143 ELDX.

It will be used for Cous hunting here in AZ.

And yes, Travis does excellent work! High quality, and his timelines are great.

Just got a 17" .280ai Kimber Hunter that I'm going to run suppressed all the time for hunting. Don't have pics yet, haven't even mounted a scope, and still need to get it threaded, but I did Chrono some loads to get an idea of what it will do.

162gr SST (all I could find)

6.5 StaBall
55.5gr - 2,644 fps
56gr - 2,650 fps
56.5gr - 2,651 fps
57gr - 2,692 fps
57.5gr - 2,741 fps
58gr - 2,784 fps

RL23
56.5gr - 2,598 fps
57gr - 2,651 fps
57.5gr - 2,658 fps
58gr - 2,678 fps
58.5gr - 2,715 fps
59gr - 2,721 fps

No pressure signs, recoil in a 5lb un-scoped rifle was... stout and the muzzle blast cleared out the benches on either side (no pity from me, one was shooting a braked .338 Lap, and the other a braked 6.5). Once I get my Nomad Ti and a decent scope mounted, I think it's going to be a sweet rig.

How does this one shoot? I picked up a 1500 in .223 for my daughter several yrs ago and bedded it into a Boyd's At-One so it could grow with her (should probably swap for a nicer stock now).....anyhow, that darn thing shoot ragged hole groups with 69 gr Sierras.
