What did you do in the reloading room today?

A quiet house makes for easy work flow. Annealed some 7 saum cases first then pulled some old 6.5 saum rounds so I can convert the brass to 7 saum. Just lubed the necks with one shot and ran an expander mandrel through them. 40 rounds worth of H1000 and primers to reuse too, that’s a win in my book.

finished my last coat on my reloading table sadly for me I did not watch the full video on burning the table i got the burning pretty good I just forgot to sand or wipe off the extra burnt parts so the table is a little dark I was regardless It was a fun learning experience

Death blow.

No large pistol primers in the house. None found in 2 hr search of vendors.

Only primers found were for 50 bmg, nothing else.

F-Me sideways again.

prepped more brass to get it ready for loading up . Took a nap and did not want to wake up way to much brass to do in one day . Way to nice of a day , the hammock was a calling me with a glass of iced tea and a wonderful breeze . it was just to much to resist . now if only we had a bushel of crabs and a couple of cases it would almost be heaven . Scratch that if joe was not president is would almost be heaven .

Many days late, but on Thursday past, I prepped, sized, cleaned the primer pockets, charged and loaded 101 6.5 Creedmoor. Using Lapua Brass, BR-4’s and Norma Golden 130’s.

The Norma’s are a strange critter. They are spot on with the ballistic program using the published BC’s, out to 500 yards (hitting MOA sized targets no less) but at 700 and beyond they seem to be operating at a much higher ballistic coefficient. Four tenths of a mil at 700 and again at 800 yards. Strange but repeatable. So, change the dope card and move on.

Today was some brass prep for the .257 Roberts.

Loaded some 7x64 with 139 GMX to try and decide on which of 2 groups I likes better and also loaded some pulled bullets into new 7x64 so I can fire and measure the case capacity.

Hopefully tomorrow my new 20moa rail for the CZ527 turns up and I can get that installed.

Scrummy

Got my Inline Fabrication flush mount bolted down. Unpacked the CPS and mounted it to the base plate.

Shellholders should be here any day and we’ll how this thing works…

Also have a plate for the SAC Multi-Base on which I have my Barrel Vise. Don’t use it much so no need to have it taking up bench space.
Interested in barrel vise on how solid it is after mounting. I was also thinking about get a plate made up for barrel
Vise.

I finished resizing and expanding two boxes of 2k pieces of brass just needs washing now that wood door ( secret door ) top post looks wicked I love that idea thanks for sharing that pick .

I deprimed and washed 450 in ultrasonic, sized and trimmed and eventually loaded my very first rounds (with a help from a mate) ever. Have to say, 15 years of shooting bullets from the taxpayers wallet this reloading stuff is exactly what my mind needs.

I started the whole crew(boys) last year when I prepped a couple thousand milsurp 556: 11yo on the dillon w trimmer/sizer, then over to one of the 6yo (at the time) twins on a Super Swage, then over to the 9yo on the chamfer/debur station. I'm 6-2 plus and stand to reload so my benches are sized appropriately. There was a collection of stools and ammo cans for my short kids. I thought I would have to bribe them with cash or candy but all of them have sought me out "Dad, can I go work on some brass?" I think the draw of working on something "adult" with their hands pulls them in (a good thing!). The pictured twin is now working through loading a different batch and can tell me what each station does. I do the primer because of the "feel" but otherwise just watch/supervise and let him go. After 20-30rds in the 95* garage he gets his fill. Good times.

Is that a battery hot glued to the top of that ammo box for a heating element?

No it's a powder temperature meter, we have a temperature variance of 85F to -31F up here so there might be a big difference between the powder temp and the outside temp

(When creating DOPE, I have to admit I have a remote temp screen to be used while drinking coffee in a warm car and waiting for the powder temp to settle ;) )

Personal ice chest with a hand warmer / ice in the summer?

A couple of years ago I loaded the truck to go shoot some 22lr with a new scope. Something came up and the ammo was left in the truck.

A cold front put temps into the teens for a couple of days and then I shot 50 yd indoor. Thought nothing of it till next trip out.

Everything was off with my scope?
Recheck every screw, worry about new scope. Lol

A week later was reading about 22lr ammo testing, and temperature variations.

Hard to get cold days and time to shoot to line up in North Central Texas. But if you want to roast your ammo for 5-6 months we got you covered.

For us lazy types.

Some oddball stuff this weekend... all brass shotshells and .45 Long Colt shot loads. In Vintage are the details on some of it.

But just to start... if you don't have any of @Rthur's custom loading blocks... they are an utter delight to use. He'll make anything you want. And they just make me happy every time I use them vs. plastic stuff made mostly in China. Solid billet. Will last 10 lifetimes. Quality starts with the smallest details... Just my "Plug o the Day..." for a great guy and product.

Here's 16 gauge brass shotshells. Unique and an assortment of spacers and wads to run a 7/8 oz shot load in a British SxS hammer gun from the late 1800's. And the .45 Colt snake loads, shot cartridges with #8 shot.

Some more pictures of the same stuff. Cards are glued in with a bit of Elmers. Patterns great and super light. Perfect quail load for this fall.

That might be the only way to do 16 gauge soon. Will they cycle in a Browning?

Nothing spectacular, but I finished 100 rounds of .223 with 69gr Sierra Match Kings and 23.8gr of TAC

I've got another 100 primers till the 2k I ordered comes in with the 1k of 77gr Sierra Match Kings for 'long distance' matches

I need to go shoot what I've loaded 'cause I'm out of 100 round ammo boxes

I cant wait to get back from deployment and completely set up my reloading room from scratch again. Wife took the room for all the arts/crafts/cricut/Glowforge Laser engraving stuff while I was gone (9 months).

Dont have the cash for my detached garage/man cave, so this is what I have to work with for now. Need to sort about 2500lbs of brass too when I get back!!

2500lbs? Really? That's like half a 463L pallet of 5.56mm brass built to 96". If it's true you have 2500lbs of brass, did you buy all that brass?

I think i have like 43 (5) gallon buckets full, plus 20/25mm ammo cans full (no idea whats full or not, or how many)

i buy, pick up, acquire, trade, etc for brass. I shoot a ton of uspsa, and clean up ranges whenever i get the chance. I have (2) ultimate sorters, Kobalt cement mixers with custom screens for water/brass juice, and corn cob media, industrial roll sizers, and (2) Ammobot 1050s for processing.

I sort, clean, and process and trade/sell brass to all my shooting buddies to pay for my ammo/reloading/gun habit. I consider it pretty "small" ball still, as its all still out of my garage. If I end up buying roll/bowl sorters, and really buy a few DA3000/CP2000 set ups dedicated, with another 2/3 roll sorters, then maybe it will be a little more than just a hobby/side thing.. HAHA

18 year active duty Senior Chief in the Navy, and shoot for the Navy Marksmanship team. I just love all things guns/ammo/reloading.

Oh God, looks like we found the guy that ran the scale at the range.

"Excuse me Specialist, your three pounds short of your brass turn in."

Company online! Find brass!

:)

i hate those mofos.. HAHAHA... when i was teaching crew serve, they would freak out on us, for like 4lbs short... "back to the range" to dig in the sand...

I've thought about buying at DRMO/Auction, but for some crazy reason, the cost per lb is crazy, and not work it. Better off buying from local ranges/shops per lb, and picking it up myself actually

Well. A 5 gallon bucket probably weighs about 50lbs so that checks out. You must spend an enormous amount of your life picking up brass 🤣

not as much as you would think. Running USPSA matches at an indoor facility, (2) buckets a month easy, sweep, dump in bucket.. I pick up with the 18" brass roller piece, and picking up brass at all shooting matches I go to for 30-45 minutes, adds up fast. If i ever feel like I'm running short, I do buy 500-1000lbs sometimes.

I also buy up any reloading lots for sale, equipment, etc, keep all the brass, and sell the rest... it all works itself out

Props. I don't know how you do it. I don't have that kinda time if I still want to shoot matches. I don't even have kids. Between the demands of work, a wife, and shooting a match every weekend I don't know how I would find time to birddog brass. But good on you. Sounds like fun.

i started doing it when i was single, got married in 2019, and have 2 step kids now.. take the time when I have it.. helps pay for all the stuff, and dates/trips. worth it in the end. I dont make enough in the military. gotta make it somewhere.. HAHA

How big is your garage? You have 43 buckets of brass, 2 x 1050s, a couple of cement mixers, roll sizers, etc. I'm guessing you don't park your truck in the garage 🤣

We need to start a thread, "What did you do in your garage today?"

I have a large shed, but yeah.. I need more room. You forgot the tool boxes, shelving, brass sorting table, golf cart, 5 bicycles, all my wifes crap, kids crap, fridge, and all the other shit.

Cant wait to build our forever home, barndominium with my 40x60' shop out back.. sweet jesus, not soon enough

What are you going to do when you retire?

Great question.. haha. I still havent grown up yet. 39yrs old, 18years active. Sonar Technician by job title. So very familiar with tactics, electronics, mechanical systems, fluid systems, hydraulics. I deal with a ton of equipment in my job onboard the ship.

I'm also a master training specialist, teaching in school houses for 6 years out of my career, weapons instructor, crew serve, small arms, and non lethal training as well. Competitive shooter, and big reloader..

My wife and I fight all the time, because I dont know what I want to be when I grow up.. haha

id love to open up a range, and have a bar/grill there. My wife has been in the restaurant business, and my MIL owned a bar in Newport, RI right outside the Navy base for 25+ years. who knows.. haha

I haven't retired yet but from my observation it seems like those jobs we encounter aren't directly related to what you do in military service. They just sort of happen. Fortunately my organization does a good job of connecting people with industry for post-service employment.

Exactly... Being a senior enlisted leader though helps, as it directly relates to business management/leadership, and project management type stuff. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, and I'm a talker. I've always thought about project/business management, or something along those lines.

Obviously the "easy" button is getting a job with Lockheed, Leidos, GS fed job, or something like that, but I dont know if I want to come back on base ever again for work. Wife and kids, I want completely away if possible, unless the deal is too good to pass up

Oh...now we're talking SEL language now, huh? 🤣 The organizational leader. Tell me more 😂

Just playing 🤣🤣🤣
Hey now.. I'll take whatever I can get after I can get out. Need to get my request in for SEA soon, so I can get some time away from the ship, and learn some things. More for after I get out, then in.. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I just finished. I hope you get a chance to go. I enjoyed most of it but I did it on the side while working. That was the only part that sucked. Embrace it and understand they aren't going to try to teach you anything about being an E9 in your next job. It's all nominative, joint stuff.

Interested in your 223 / 69 / tack load, could you expand on that a little.
That is my next load to do development on.

100 round boxes ? Why ?

Everything except ladder tests / development goes into these for working stock and range grabers.

The big penut butter size stores 120 223 and fits the side pocket on a ruck.

Free and a reasonable give away size. Controls people wanting to dive into big ammo cans for a range orgy.

Went down and dickered around with the 550B, seems to be setup for .223 right now from what I can tell on the toolhead. Guess I need to go rummage through and find some H110 and other components. Seems fitting with what's going on.
