I put 3 women through university far enough for them to get masters degrees. They all ended up becoming teachers. Being book smart enough to get a 4yr degree in anything is one thing and it's enough to get to into the teaching profession. Being book smart enough to get a masters degree is something slightly different and it's enough to land the kinds of jobs that really pay the bills. Teaching is not a way to really pay the bills and it's certainly a shit return on the masters degree investment. The fact that someone goes into the teaching profession after buying or having had bought for them a masters degree tells you that that person has the common sense of a wet fart and should not be left to make any more choices on their own. If you do leave them to make their own choices they're doomed to doing stupid shit like buying a German car that has more than 2 seats. I'm very proud of my wife and daughters for their accomplishment at getting their masters degrees. I'm utterly and irreparably downcast that they demonstrated absolute foolishness by wasting it all on being public school teachers.

I make a damn good buck at what I do and decided 2 years of college was enough for me. I won't deny certain occupations require schooling and education but don't assume just because I wear shorts every day, use a pencil, hammer, and saw I don't make enough to rival some with a masters degree.

    Yup.

I especially enjoy when I ask engineers if I should go get a degree to make more money, and they're absolutely astonished I make more than them without 100k of student loan debt.

And I get the added bonus of not having to work in a damned office staring at a screen. I did that for a very short time and discovered I can in fact sleep sitting up at a desk.

I think a lot of replies so far have missed the connection between the thread title and what's on the license plate. I'm sure some Navy guys will make the connection.

It depends on what kind of 'instructors' they become.

When I went back to community college at 40 I was really lucky to draw two excellent ones who inspired me and changed my life. Ended up graduating from UVA at 45. Thanks Wayne Wiley and Martha Goodman. I am forever in your debt.
