fuck the teamsters. I still remember what they tried to do to my dad's side gig when they are on strike in the port of San Juan.
I was 15 then and couldn't do anything to them. Not the case now.......
Just what we need, back ups in unloading, now no trucking if they do get unloaded..
It’s about eight weeks to the first real threat of a railroad strike, no sooner than 30 days after the PEB concludes and it just convened on Monday. Your right my math was off . It's 30 days for the board to try to negotiate a deal (that started this past Monday) . If its not reached in 30 days then there is a 30 day cooling off period. After that they can strike .
Union members will be our salvation. Union leadership is bought and paid for Democrats and funding the Potato.
Unless something dramatic has changed in the Swamp, or union members have axed their “traditional” leaders…. It’s the hard working folks on the ground, not the “entity” that will be our salvation.

Sorry… haven’t had my coffee yet. But I stand behind my belief that Union members will be part of what pulls us through. With or without the dictates of the bosses in DC… and their $1200 expense account lunches.

I'll revise this one, now that the PEB is out and it completely ignored addressing the attendance grievances trainmen (conductors and engineers) have, I fully foresee a short strike which will be stopped by Congress enacting the terms of the PEB. After that, as soon as the back pay hits accounts, numerous railroaders are leaving the industry further exasperating the manpower issues the railroads are already experiencing, especially in the two crafts that actually make the trains move and also takes about a year to backfill any position that opens up. Right now many guys are taking days off to attend job interviews, despite any coming pay raises.
The supply chain issues are going nowhere soon, and safety is also suffering as a side effect.
It's not a "union" issue. California AB5 law says workers contracted to work for someone can't be considered an independent "gig" worker, they must be an employee of the company that connects truckers with loads to carry. Supreme Court refused to hear the case three days ago.

I'll admit I just skimmed the article, but it seems to say independents would have to become employees...and then be able to reap all the benefits of joining the union.
No... I didn't say I approved of their Union Membership. In fact, most of them are probably not that happy to be told who to vote for by corrupt leaders who live like kings on dues money inside the beltway... with mansions in Potomac and Alexandria.
Don't get me wrong. The unions had a real (and valuable) role 100+ years ago because laissez-faire capitalism was, indeed, out of control.
But since have morphed into nothing more than extensions of a socialist Democratic Party.
While their members are some of the best of the best in America. Probably paying their dues, a lot of them, because they have to. Not because they approve of their leadership. And who they tell them to vote for.
I could be wrong, however.
But, no... I do not approve of the unions that are merely a funding extension of the DNC.

I get a lot of questions about supply chain being the buyer of raw materials.
Supply chain is fucked but prices have been softening and materials are coming available.
Everyone wants to clap like a seal.
I think demand is dropping.
Everyone is realizing the sanctions on Russia are having no effect on stopping the goods flowing out of their borders, hence the relaxing in the commodities markets. That's a piece of it anyhow, another is certainly demand is flattening and about to go negative in the near future. Household cash glut has disappeared and people are seeing the APR on their credit cards rising.
