Hi guys,

Seems I got scammed out of $110 by BMitchell448 - post was offering up GWT 338LM brass (looking back it was definitely cheaper than normal), and I looked at his feedback and it seemed good.

Well now, the ad is deleted, and I noticed that the ad was a copy of one posted over a year ago by another member.

I'm assuming his account has been hacked.

Just wanted to warn people to look out - I'm just glad it wasn't more money, but just hoping to keep this guy from getting anyone else.

Paypal address asshole used was: [email protected]

Yep, I reported it and asked in the thread why the photos were the same as junkyard brodys 338 GWT brass. He’s been deleting all the threads he bumped as I’ve been commenting.

I saw that - my fault for not doing due diligence, it's all good. I just hope this asshole doesn't move to someone else's account.

Oh yeah, no problem brother. In the long run, $110 doesn't bother me. This motherfucker scamming people out of their hard earned money does bother me. Glad he didn't get anyone else - yet.

Definitely - I saw his positive feedback and the stuff he'd sold and figured he was good to go based on that.

Hopefully mods let him know soon and he gets his PW changed. People really need to use the 2FA to secure their accounts.

UHcoog1 was hacked too. I can’t post a new thread in the classifieds to warn anyone. Never seen a forum with so much scamming. I don’t know Jack shit about software and computers. Why is this site hit so hard?

I think this can be avoided in the future by forcing 2FA to be enabled for everyone, or by requiring all posts have a picture of the item with the username's name written on a piece of paper.

Too many people WITHOUT 2-factor login authentication and weak passwords.

So some dipshit in India or wherever sits there and guesses passwords? Lol.

No other forum I’m on has this issue. None of them have 2FA.

Not knocking this place at all. Just curious wtf. It’s got me paranoid on every transaction on any forum lol

Forcing shit doesn’t solve anything. And it’s relatively easy to photoshop your user id into any pre-existing picture.

Buy only from people with a good track record, be wary of anything that looks suspicious (below market prices, especially on currently unobtainium shit).

To be thorough, request specific, particular pics of the item (example: someone’s selling a scope, ask for a pic with the elevation turret dialed to 10 mils and windage dialed to 3 mils left or something equivalent that would be really hard to fake on demand.

Most scammers asking for PayPal have acct addresses that force you to pay a fee even when doing FF instant transfer from your checking acct, an obvious sign there’s a problem.

They also get real impatient and send multiple pms in a very short period of time asking for payment

Lastly ask for a phone or FaceTime conversation, that usually stops them in their tracks.

I’ve done countless transactions on here, never had an issue. I’ve also avoided getting scammed by following common sense practices like the few I mentioned.

Valid points. But how would a mandatory 2FA NOT solve the problem? Also the Paypal accounts that want to charge a fee for FF are international accounts, but yes a big red flag for scams.

How would a mandatory vaccination solve our Covid problems? You want to outsource your ability to make your own decisions? I dont.

And for most of the shit we buy and sell on here, its atypical to deal with anyone out of the country anyway.

You can only empty me with these solutions, you bastard.

You're a bastard who doesn't know your world yet!

No matter how much precautions are taken.

lol What? Because Covid and 2FA are the same thing. Solid logic my man.

You’re a dumbass, dude. Covid is the problem, the vaccine is the proported solution. Getting hacked is the problem, 2FA is the solution.

You completely missed the point anyway.

Point is, mandating shit isnt the answer. Everyone can make their own decisions about how to (or not to) protect themselves.

You really are an idiot!

I INVITE EVERYONE TO TURN ON 2FA!

I'll log in to all of them again, don't worry. :D:D:D:D:

how tf did this get turned into being about vaccinations.

You make a good point about requesting specific pictures as verification in PMs, but if someone requests a phone call or something I'm just going to sell to someone else.

Forcing 2FA be enabled would eliminate 99% of these events from happening.

No clue lol. I'm guessing someone doesn't know what 2FA is or how it works given them comments.

Re the phone call, it depends on what you’re selling. I request phone calls for high dollar items and all firearms i buy, if the seller refuses no biggie ill just buy from someone else.

Re the vaccines i was making a point. The site can probably be configured to enable 2FA as part of opening an account so its not even selectable, its just automatically enabled and you simply Re authenticate every so often

And it would prevent legitimate accounts and contributors from getting their accounts banned due to laziness. This guy thinks he's a certified badass being able to get on others accounts.

I know exactly what 2fa/multi fa is and how it works. Having it run automatically in the background on all accounts is the solution vs “mandating” everyone manually turn it on.

Perhaps that’s what you initially meant to say

2FA forces you to re-authenticate when you sign on from a new device. Yes I was advocating for a forced 2FA vs. telling everyone to turn it on themselves. Still not sure how vaccines relate here though.

An active mfa/2fa that is enabled systemically would solve these acct takeover issues.

which of us is the guy with no legitimate income and has to resort to scamming people out of their money in hopes he can have clean water for the day?

I will 100% fall on my sword here. I want to apologize to @SpecWarCom for what happened. I was away from the Hide for the better part of 10 months. My password was actually not a simple one. So we are not sure exactly how it happened. But it did and I did not have MFA turned on at the time. I talked with Frank and made a few changes. Ultimately though, it's my fault. I am sorry for letting someone gain access to my account and scam you and anyone else. I have sold lots of stuff on here since joining in 2013, some very high dollar transactions. I take what happened very seriously. I will make certain it doesn't happen again.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Very best,
Brett
