i was at work yesterday, and got a nugget from a customer. i am doing follow up on it, but there may be a place in western wi that can shoot to 1000. my understanding is they rent it out, but i have no idea as to what they charge. i contacted them, left a message. if folks have any interest, perhaps we could arrange a day to rent it out and have a get together.

Can you give an idea what area/town? Might be interested in a day trip from N. Central IL.

Probably a bit too far from me to commit to anything, but if I had nothing going on that day I might still be interested. Nowhere around me for that distance.

Neither one would work for me. Aug 29th there is a wprsc match going on.

guys.... it’s at the summit lake game farm between north of birchwood on hwy F. no charge, but they do take donations. i used to get quail to train my setter from these guys, and they were always decent to me. given how scarce a 1000. yard range is around here, i’d say make sure to make it worth their time. i THINK he said they use the donations for shooting charities and range maintenance.

you can call for details. i am thinking i am going to try to set something up for saturday the 29th. nothing much more than some informal shooting.

Working both those days. Good to know it’s there and available though. Enjoy!

Would be interested for another time. Can’t make the 29th. Sounds great tho!

@myronman3 did you schedule the 29th with Summit Lake? I looked and I'm good for the 29th. I'm going to bring my dad along as he's never shot over a few hundred yards.

Do you know if we need a certain amount before they'll allow us to shoot?

I spoke to Phil at Summit Lake this morning. They ask you call the day before to confirm a reservation.

They have paper target hangers out to 500 yards. Bring your own paper targets.

They have steel at 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1,000.

I plan on being there around 9am this Saturday.

If you want to go, give them a call on Friday and give them a heads up. The phone number is (715) 354-7241

Thanks @myronman3 for the heads up on this place!

I’ll keep an eye out for future dates. WPRSC is this weekend so I won’t make it, but would like to get out and check out the range

Can you return with feedback and pics ? Would like to see off this place is worth my 4 hour ride for the future

Went out shooting yesterday. Showed up about 8:30.
The gates open at 9. Was let in and then spoke to an employee ( not sure of his name, but nice guy) and he lead us out to the range.

There was a large shed on the top of a hill on a power line. The targets were spaced from 100-1000 yards, every hundred down into a small valley and then up the other side.

The shed had five benches in it, each with its own window that had to be opened from the outside.

The shed had a small deck on the end of it so you could shoot prone from there, or from the ground outside the shed.

Paper targets from 100-400, and steel from 400 to 1000.

The place is pretty good size. They have a large trap range near the clubhouse, and a pretty good sized dirt bike track across the road, which is where the rifle range is.

The clubhouse has a bar and grill inside. After we were done shooting we stopped in for a beer and a burger. Food was pretty good.

Spoke to the waitress about the donations for letting us use there range. We left the money with her as she said she would make sure to get it into the correct hands.

All in all, it was a great day.

My dad had never shot passed 200 before, so we confirmed zero at 100 and took some chrony readings.

After that, we started at 500 and walked him out to 800.

He struggled with his glasses being he wears bifocals and was having troubles seeing anything passed 800 so we stopped there. Next time, he'll bring his contacts.

Thank you sir for taking the time and making an effort to provide such detailed information - greatly appreciated.

things got pretty busy for me out of the blue. one damn thing after another. glad to hear a few of you made good use of the info. will have to set something up for next spring/summer. i will be an empty nester by then so it should be a helluva lot easier.

Posted in another thread about Summit Lake, but I’m going to see about heading up there mid week after Labor Day. Anyone interested?

I should add that I have 3 friends (in addition to myself) that would also be doing this with me.

Won't work mid week for me or any of my friends...
Call them, I bet they’re open on weekends too.

This isn’t just a one time thing. They allow shooters to use their range when hunting seasons aren’t open or if they don’t have guests.
