Some jackass hit my truck and took off. Of course, I wasnt in it....$9000 in damage: Sheared the leaf spring bolt off, bent the axle (hit the tire) and trashed the bed.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you find out who it was, somehow. Definitely not a way to start the day.

Don’t feel bad, I was in my other house next door two days ago replacing shocks and leaf springs on one of my trucks. Two idiots came into the backyard of the other house and broke in. Good thing I set the alarm as usual even when I go next door. Even though I live in a nice quiet neighborhood, somebody’s always out to ruin it.

And mofos call me paranoid for wanting to install small cameras with cloud upload to cover all angles while parked or on the move. Cameras are the best way to catch cowardly dipshits in the act, whether hit and run assholes or predators attempting to make contact with underage kids.
Lots of no good motherfuckers that haven’t had their heads stomped half off! That’s the problem!

That sucks. I assume you're insured. Hopefully they take good care of you.

Today, a deep scratch in the paint requires replacing a panel. If the damage doesn’t affect function, it’s not trashed. Yes, the leaf spring and axle. But the bed? Nope, not trashed. Dented rear quarter panel.

No way. By far the best truck I have ever owned, except the diesel exhaust fluis bullshit. It gets better mpg than my Jeep too. I average 20mpg when hauling the horse trailer with horses in it. Of course, it only has 65,000 miles and its a 2015. The wife and I regularly take it into the mountains and the area we go to is rugged as !@##

I love this truck if ya cant tell :)
It's a Chevy. They did you a favor.

I'm not into horses.

and dickhead of the day goes to...

The bed looks repairable. Of course the quality of the tech makes a difference. If they suck like most shops id rather have bad mud work then a panel replaced. If they dont do it right it will be rusting from the inside. Cant remember GMs procedures but gluing it on may be more appropriate if you plan to keep it for a while.

Never take it to a dealer body shop. All the really talented guys have their own shops and hire away the really good techs.

In my younger years I would have taken the insurance money and fixed it myself. But you may not have the time or want to mess with it so let the insurance company take care of it if that is the situation. Your rates shouldn't be affected as it was not your fault. The diminished value issue may vary depending on your company and state. Get it if you can . You don't have to be in a hurry to settle .
