Rifle Scopes Burris XTR3!!!

I’ve been looking at the 5.5-30 at camera land .
I have a Bushnell ERS will I see a good upgrade in glass?
I know the Bushnell tracks perfectly how is the track record on these?
Track record on tracking for Burris XTRs is bulletproof.

I like the Bushnell ERS. Clarity is a little better on the XTRIII, as is the FOV.

Both are good scopes.

@Birddog6424 is there a big difference in the 2 scopes or just a small upgrade?
I dont think there is a huge difference. I've had these alongside quite a bit, there's a shooter at my club that has one. I shoot with him often in my squad.

The Bushnell is a good Japanese scope. They're consistent and reliable. It looks a little nicer looking through the Burris with the edge to edge glass and larger FOV. That's pretty much the difference. As far as LOW scopes go, the Bushy and the Razor are my two favorites.

I have an ERS and now have 2 xtr3’s and a pro on order.

The glass is a noticeable bump up from my ERS. There is no tunneling. And a much more forgiving eye box on the xtr3.

You will be very happy with the upgrade especially for the price from cameraland!

Since I’m crippled on my second shoulder surgery in two years come zero my 3-18. Be rewarded with great bourbon, steaks, and scallops. Or money, but with inflation idk what is better.

I spun this piss out of it and there is definitely a part of the rotation where it is noticeably harder. Again scope has basically been mounted and that’s pretty much it. I think today was the first time I rotated anything other than mag. and para. I just did it again. From zero stop around 5.7mils spinning through to next revolution at 3 mils is my stiff range 7-8 is where she really bogs down. And it’s the same on every rotation up and down. Just ran it probably ten times each way. Just spun windage for first time. Stiffer than elevation but spinning to max R and back to max L. Left is definitely harder
Before I cleaned mine up, from about half mil to about 2-ish it felt like it was really binding along with being stiff in general. It got really tight around that mark. After cleaning everything out, resistance is the same throughout all the clicks and revolutions.

It’s like come on Greeley! We Americans want to buy American assembled/made (at least I hope) as much as we can so be consistent! Put some effort into QC. Three years now in production. It’s not like it’s a new model to produce. 4:59pm Friday builds aren’t going to cut it these days when we are paying with our hard earned money. /rant

I’m wondering what the purpose of that grease is and why they specifically use it. I looked in my 3-18 and have it as well but I’m not removing it. I couldn’t see them using it knowing it makes adjustment more resistant without some logical reason…hopefully?

In the 3+ years the scope has been out, an issue with turret grease has never come up. My first XTRIII was stiff, and it lagged in a certain location for the first few outings as described by others above. I have seen that mentioned before. But they have all smoothed out with a little break in, and there's never been another issue. It's a rock solid turret. I've never heard anyone say in all these years that their turret still lags after a little use.

It doesn't seem like something to make a huge deal over. Especially given its history of no one seeing a continued issue with it.

If you feel it's far stiffer than it should be, reach out to Burris CS and let them make it right. Those folks want to make sure you're happy with you're purchase.

This sign hangs everywhere at Burris..

It’s fine now that I squared it away. My fear was sending it in only to get it back with “it’s normal” note. I would have NOT accepted that response. I shot a stage yesterday and was almost hesitate to dial and just hold because the damn turret was so damn stiff. Yes it was binding that much. Anyway I love the scope and punches way above the price point. I compared it side by side with a Gen 3 and the XTR3 is definitely no slouch.

Anyone able to compare the XTR3 to a 5-25 leupold mk5hd? I don’t compete anymore so I’m looking to move out of the 2k optic and down a bit now that these are street pricing at less than 1300. Is it a big downgrade in any category? It’s going to go on a .308 thst is mostly range shot, occasionally lose a local f class match with 😂

It really comes down to what you want. Lighter weight and extremely good depth of field? Or save some money and get awesome field of view. My XTR3 didn't really feel like a downgrade next to my Mark 5. I liked the turrets more on my Mark 5. It seemed slightly sharper too, but barely and the field of view difference is really noticable.

I sold my gen 3 kahles 6-24 after looking through a XTR PRO. I bought 2 XTR3s while I waited for the pro to be delivered. I wasn’t left wanting even with the plain xtr3’s. I did notice a bit less resolution but nothing major and I actually think the pro was an upgrade from the kahles.

Cant speak to the 5-25's.
I've have been shooting the US made XTR3 3.3-18 x 50 next to MK5 3.6-18 x 44 recently. Neither are illuminated.
The XTR3 is a nice scope for 1K. I do like it and will keep it. I think it stands alone at that price point. XTR3 wins for FOV. Clarity is good, and eye box is good.
It's not a fair comparison from a price standpoint. IMO the MK5 is better as it should be. Not drastically, but it cuts mirage better, parallax is easier to dial in and it's more forgiving once you dial out past 200. I like the MK5 turrets better accept for the stupid windage alignment mark. To my eye the MK5 is also a little better in low light.

No. Not a downgrade IMO. I've had them side by side for a fair amount of time.
I think the glass is about the same between the two. The Leupold *might* but a tick cleaner but this is subjective to the user I believe. That being said, I take the XTR over the MK5. More forgiving eyebox, a hash mark on the windage knob that is actually functional, and the ability to run the race turret and write dope on the turret. I've got the XTR III in both 5-25 and 3-18 and think they're a great value for the price.

I picked up four from Camera Land when they got the first batch in, good glass, nice format, but the turrets and zoom ring sucks....called Burris sent one back to see what they could do, and was told thats normal. The mag ring on one of them was so tight it broke a cheap plastic switchview. Burris did pay shipping both ways and sent me 4 metal switchviews for free.

MK 5 is better just not by much. Thank you gr8fuldoug i just paid you 949.99 for another EXR III. Just can't beat that price.

What height rings are you all running on a bolt gun for the XTR III illuminated 3.3-15x50? I’m using 1” NF rings for my XTRIII 5.5-30x56. NF lowest is 1” but I know seekins and others go lower as well

I was running around 1.2” but moved it to my AR. I am currently moving most of my scopes to 1.5” rings to get a more vertical head position.

Seekins low clear on my 50mm XTRIIs while slumming EGW 25moa rail. Straight taper barrel.

Illuminated models, SCR MOA really thicker than SCR2 MIL? Is it actually noticeable or still a little to thin?

I recently purchased 2 of the XRT3 3-18 from Camera Land. On one the turrets, parallax, and mag ring are all perfect. The other one everything was noticeable tighter, almost to the point of uncomfortable. Now after several turns of each turret and mag ring it is starting to get better, not as good as the other scope but nothing to complain about. Both scopes the reticles are very crisp, eye box is nice, and thus far I am very pleased with the optical quality.
I bought one from them at about the same time. The mag ring on mine is ridiculously stiff. I was also surprised that the center of the reticle is useless below about 7X. I think the glass is good, not great. It doesn't process low light as well as my Burris Droptine 4.5-14x42. I haven't dialed it through the paces, but getting it sighted in, it behaved as expected. For me, it rates would not buy again.

Look forward to seeing it on the sale area as the Cameraland deals are long gone on XTRIII

Has anyone put a 3.3-18 behind a thermal clip on? How does the scr and scr2 reticle look at 6-8x? Considering one for a 308 thermal host

The scr2 reticle in my 5.5-30 is useless untill about 12x and the scr2 reticle in my old rt15 was completely useless at even max power.

Does anyone know if I can get the non capped windage turret for the illuminated 5.5-30 xtr3. Would prefer to have it non capped with your standard turret. But was told they don’t make it for the illuminated models.

I read somewhere that the non illuminated turret will work on the newer illuminated scopes. I have one I’m not going to use. Pm me, we can work something out.

My xtr3 came with exposed windage turret, It also came with cap in box if I wanted to cap. Contact Doug at Camerland. He will take care of you.

The original xtr3’s came with capped or exposed, the newer illuminated ones only come with the capped windage turrets.

Incorrect. My new 3 illuminated has exposed, not capped. New stock must have been changed. Camerland has new stock.

Interesting. So do the new stock have the option for capped as well? The capped windage was a big plus for me and I was about to order another 5-30.

Apologize for spreading bad information, I will contact Burris today to verify then edit my post.

A windage cap is included in the scope box so you can cap if you want.

Ok, so it does not have the dedicated large exposed windage turret that matches the elevation turret? The original xtr3’s came with a small windage turret that could be capped or you could remove the small capped turret and replace it with a large windage turret that matched the elevation turret and could not be capped.

Here is a picture of the original non capped turret that came with the originals.

Correct. Windage is lower.

Does anyone know if Burris is still doing the first responder program? I’ve tried to reach out but haven’t received a response, likely from the holidays.

When I asked I was told it is through Expertvoice. They don't do direct. Also if going through Expertvoice don't plan to get the whole catalog of Burris as they only have some of the products from time to time. I was looking for a Pro a few months back and they didn't have them there and I tried contacting the person at Burris who handles Expertvoice about if they were going to be available through Expertvoice again and never got him to pick up his phone or return my call. I called more than a dozen times and left messages. Guess he doesn't speak with the public. So sign up and see if they have what you want. If not then go look at Liberty Optics as they have prices almost at Expertvoice level.

Thanks Rob. I have ExpertVoice and saw the price of the XTR3i and Pro’s being teased shortly after they were released but they quickly disappeared and I haven’t seen them pop up. I did also see what Scott had to offer but wasn’t sure if the price in the cart was going to be the end price. I’ll probably purchase through Liberty Optics when I’m ready to buy, unless they pop back up on EV. Just window shopping now.
