What big product (from a big company) did Backus (as Mr. Magoo) endorse in a bunch of TV Commercials? I recall he did this, but can't recall what. It was General Electric light bulbs.
Who were the other "regular characters" in the cartoon series (including the three house pets)? Which adult character would totally be "politically incorrect" in today's times? His "dog" was a cat. Wasn't there a parrot? Plus his houseboy Charlie (missah magloo!) His mother (the only one to call him by his first name - "oh Quincy!") And his rich uncle.
Pretty good! The three house pets were, "Bowser" the cat, "Ceasar" the dog (beagle IIRC), and "Hamlet" the hamster. I'm not saying there wasn't, but I don't recall a parrot... not one that was "named" that is... I recall an episode where Ceasar, who loved classical music often fought over the Victrola with Bowser, who was in to "beatnik jazz" (and he often wore a beret). I think Magoo sided with Bowser on that one. Ceasar was interesting in that he spoke with a pronounced southern drawl. He would often be at odds with Hamlet as well. Bowser, I think, was a NYC fast talking accent. Reminds me of "Deputy Dawg" where Ceasar's accent was like "Muskie" the muscrat, and Bowser was like "Vincent Van Gopher."
Correct... Charlie the Chinese houseboy was the politically incorrect character. He'd always be dressed in the stereotypical blue and gold uniform with the pill box hat (and long pony tail) and would say things like "OKLAY, MISSAH MAGLOO, OKLAY.... OKLAY.." Although, some might actually accuse Mr. Magoo himself as being biased against geriatrics, etc...
The Uncle was named "Presley" and his nephew was "Waldo" (sort of a Beetle Baileyish Country bumpkin). Although Presley didn't strike me as being rich. Quite the opposite, actually. He was more of a shill (a wheeler dealer). I think Presley's voice was patterned after WC Fields).
What role did Mr. Magoo play in a rather famous Dickens story, (hint) for which the production was made a "musical" and in which Magoo sang (normally it is not a musical)? He played scrooge
Correct. The thing that made his rendition different is that they wrote it as a "Broadway Musical" called "Mr. Magoo's Crhistmas Carol." All of the main characters had their own solo song to sing.
