Midair collision at an airshow in Dallas today

Looks like the P-51 is at fault holy cow man that sucks for all involved.....RIP for anyone that died!
The B-17 was below the Mustang in it's blind spot. There were an unknow number of passengers in the B-17.
There are 40 B-17 Flying Fortresses remaining, 9 were airworthy including The Texas Raider, the one that went down today. RIP to all.

Turns out it wasn't a P-51 Mustang but a P-63 Kingcobra, a super rare little fighter.

Here's the B-17.

What is the airshow a free for all with no air controller, senseless loss of life.

At an airshow you have a clear frequency and an air boss running everything that is acting like ATC for the entire show.

Those little fighters are hard to keep track of. The pilot never saw that B-17.

A tragic loss of life and two irreplaceable aircraft. I was familiar with Texas Raiders but more so with a couple of other B-17s having flown in them several times. What a rush if you have never flown in one spend the money while there are some left .
RIP to all involved a sad day

That's terrible rest on peace for all. We saw the Texas Raider a couple years ago at the Alliance air show in Fort Worth.

A lot of people are reminiscing being in or flying in the Texas Raiders. It was a revered old warbird.

I enlarged and watched that a few times. (It appears strongly) the small plane was at fault. Unless it was equipment failure he had no reason not to have seen the B 17. What a shame.

Pretty sure I've been in the B-17 on the ground.

I posted that video just to show how "busy" that area was with low-flying planes.
Good video. It looks like he was hot dogging or something. I expect the pilot of the small plane was dead on impact so we'll likely never know. The guys in the 17 were probably like "WTF" then it was over in seconds.

Sad, a lot of good people take their kids to those shows. always wanted to ride in one of those flying fortresses.

We used to have a great show at Hanscom AFB in Bedford, MA.

Locals complained about it big time.

Can’t expose kids to an awesomeness that will capture their soul and focus their attention like nothing else can.

Hanscom is surrounded by faggots.

Last time I was there it was to meet with a bunch of runway fashionistas designing camo patterns. Yes, it is like a fucking Sergio Valente fashion studio there.

Surrounded by leftist butt-pirates who want the Air Force core mission changed to developing digital camo skinny jeans for manbun-types.

It used to once be great as a P40 training base. They have a P40 on a pedestal mount on base.

My daughter plays soccer at a facility just off the back of the base.

Naval Sea Command has a building back there deteriorating away.

The big ass Hanscom hanger is also their again I think rotting away. It was such size that it has steel cable to help support the roof system.

Not near as big as the blimp hanger they used to have down South Weymouth that I had to report to when called back for Gulf I and later for IRR.

We had that same issue in Georgetown, TX. in 2000 when the transplants that built their track homes under the flight path that the Confederate Airforce flew vintage warplanes in an annual airshow complained about the noise. One Karen said it was too loud for the children and showed little Bailey standing there making faces and holding his ears. Little cocksucker.

My mother, a former member of the WACs and was in the Pacific, was livid.

Thats funny. Sort of.

For the all the souls on board, RIP. Looks like the fighter is eating up the B17 speed wise and trying to turn inside of him while descending. Probably never saw him. Lot of speed difference there inside of congested airspace (show line). Damn shame and prayers for the families.

Every time I see those old war birds in flight brings a little tear to my eye. Awesome.

When I see a marvelous B-17 in flight, all the noise from those 4 radial engines, I can’t help but wonder how terrifying it must have been to be on the ground in Germany and see 1200 of them flying overhead.

God Bless the souls aboard both planes. Tragedy.

They think thats what happened. The P-63 was banking left and never saw the 17 below him. He came in hot and hit it like a missile at the base of the wings, going 236 mph.

Somebody was out of their designated block. It may have been the Raiders.

Those old warbirds disembark and rumble over the cabin after an air show and they stop me from whatever I'm doing to gaze upward with mouth agape and admire them.

Some of the videos show several planes buzzing around. do they have an air traffic controller at things like this?

That exact B-17 flew over my house as a kid all the time I'd run outside or drop what I was doing to watch it
