I have a Burris 1-6 on my AR-15 and I love the optic... it's bright, very clear and smooth. I reached out to Burris and asked for a recommendation for my AR-10 and they said RT-15 or RT-25. Not sure about the RT after reading some threads here. I've copied the following from the sticky on how to get good feedback - thanks in advance.
  • Platform - A custom built AR-10, 21" bull barrel, adjustable gas block, muzzle-break & bipod
  • Cartridge - 308
  • Intended use - Hunting, Benchrest & Steel - in that order
  • Shooting conditions - Daylight and Lowlight
  • Distances - 600-1,000 yds
  • Specific Specs - I'd like a FFP and bright... It needs to work well on an AR Platform, weight is not as issue. I have no preference on Mil or MOA, turrets, tube or objective size
  • Price Range - I want it all, but need options. I can swing anything in the $500-$1000 range immediately, but would like to know if I should save up and get something in the $1000-$2000 range. I'd like to understand the price/performance curve for optics that will work on my AR-10
I've run a little over 500 rds, with open sights and with a real POS old scope just to get rounds down range. I'm in love with the characteristics of the platform. Smooth as silk. I'm excited to hear your thoughts and advice. Cheers - Doug

In that price range, the illuminated XTRIII 3.3-18 would be a perfect fit for that platform. It'll work very nicely as a crossover hunting/target scope. It's relatively light for a Tactical optic at 29ozs and 13" in length. Has a thicker reticle than the non illuminated version and runs about $1200'ish I believe.

Optics Planet has a Burris XTR OPMOD 5-25 for around $600, just look for sales on DVOR.com. I have one on my custom 308 bolt and I love it. Only downside is that it has a butt ugly camo finish. Think 70s porn leopard print.

i've got a couple of Vortex Viper PST2 on my rigs. i've shot them out to a mile. The Razor's are better glass, but about 2x the price
i've picked up my used PST2's for around $500 each, but that's being patient. if you need one ASAP you can find them for around $700

If your main purpose will be hunting, the reticle on the XTR III is not very usable on lower power & in low light. It's really thin. I bought one & returned it because of it. Hopefully they add a thicker more useable reticle in the future, not just 2 choices they have now, mostly setup for PRS.
