Tac Ops Rifles

Forgive my ignorance but is the green hornet a 22lr or 22 hornet ?

I’m Looking for a shorty to match the shorty(ish) rifle. I’m up in the air on a S&B US variant /ZCO 4x20/ Leupold M5 HD 3x18 etc.. Where I live I don’t have long range shooting opportunities. I’m not a PRS guy and not the sharpest tool in the shed so I understand MOA way better then Mills

Thanks.
Your craftsmanship and those Krieger 4 grooves had something to do with it though. :)

I appreciate the kind words and you are correct those Krieger 4 grooves are lights out best barrels in the industry as far as I am concerned...

@MikeRTacOps, I am assuming that when working with Remington actions there is a percentage that just doesn't make the cut to become a TacOps, and to a lesser extent some Surgeon or Krieger. Curious are you able to cull what you start with to minimize fallout.

MY understanding is he trues it and installs the barrel at like 1000FT lbs using a 12ft breaker bar and special jig. It's then sprinkled with a combo of magic dust, colombian bam bam, and bacon grease. ;)

Not necessarily true if I come across a Remington 700 that has issues there is nothing a lead hammer can't resolve lol. I have my procedures with all actions even the Surgeons or other custom ones I still machine them to my specs. They all get a bath and then go in the oven on a COLD START for 9 hours and then I cut them until they are to my exact standards. I used to make my own barrels back in the 1980’s but only did it for a few years and got out of that business ( issues with partners ). I’ve used a few of the other manufacturers but I find that Krieger barrels work the best for the results I am achieving. I won’t ever use a 5R so please don’t ask me, I’m set in my ways I’m old school…

Remington's get around 550 FT Ibs and the Surgeon or custom actions get around 350... and we def. use the Italian Olive oil to barrel receiver fit , it's not the Colombian bam bam even though I've heard a rumor we've used that ;) We don't have a 12 ft breaker bar one of the guys in the shop is also FBI ( Full Blooded Italian ) and his dog is registered on a form 2 with the ATF for a dangerous weapon. So Joe's allowed to use that on the pull up after he takes a Viagra and puts his back into it no way that barrel's coming off...

What's the closest commercial option to your barrels Mike?
I love Krieger Barrels and I believe we have had one that was BO and they replaced it immediately and that was 17 or 18 years ago...

Mike’s opinion notwithstanding, what do you Tac Ops folks think about 6.5 CM vs 308 given that you won’t be changing the barrel in your home shop when you burn the 6.5 CM out?

I stuck with .308 for several reasons and that was one of them, but I would say just get whatever caliber you desire. He can re-barrel it whenever you’re ready for it.

Or better yet, get two of them so you have one to shoot while the other is being rebarreled :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Had to send my S&B to the wizard 🧙‍♂️ master Jerry for an unforeseen rare glass issue, excellent customer service I may add.

Got it back, remounted on the Tango 51 18” surgeon action with trigger tech diamond pro trigger and bore sighted. Went to local 100 yard range it was packed on Thanksgiving.

This is the course of sight in target I cut out. This was shooting off an Atlas bipod, rushing quickly, round after round only time to spare was clicks on optic to make quick adjustments.

FGMM 168 grain BTHP

Shot 1 low left
Made adjustments
Shot 2 dead even w center but flinched mikes trigger setting gets me sometimes 😂
Made adjustment
Shot 3 right at top of center knew I sent it good
Made final adjustment
3 rounds center white

Mike makes a gun that is easily without practice doing no extra rushing around .25 or less into the 0’s w FGMM , touching rounds and hole 🕳️ through hole 🕳️ are easy if ya can shoot at all

She will be good to go for now.

I know she’s on so the next time she’s out I’ll give her what she and I is capable of, .1’s or better

Just gonna put yourself out there with that math error? Forgot an inch on that initial adjustment ;-)

I appreciate the "only need one shot to zero" nature of Tac Ops. I think I mentioned earlier that my Delta-51 was "true" to the point that simply mounting the optic was close enough to shoot with no adjustment required prior to getting rounds on paper. I think it needed .3 mil to zero the windage. I started with two shots, because I was weak in my faith ;-). They went through the same hole - Diane didn't seemed bothered about cold, hot, fouled, etc. Made the adjustments and got on with shooting. It is immensely satisfying to know that the bullet is going EXACTLY where you put the crosshair.

I went 6.5.
I'm thinking 2,000 to 3,000 rounds, we'll see what happens.
I asked Mike about round count, but he said that he hasn't made enough give a precise estimate on barrel life for the 6.5cm. (His estimate was around 2,500 though.)

You could go 6.5 at first and if it burns out fast have Mike put on a .308 barrel when it goes back to him.
That's my plan if it burns out to quick for my liking.

2,500 rounds is probably a reasonable estimate for 6.5 Creedmoor.

Most definitely, that’s why I gave it some leeway. It also depends on if you are running it hot all the time, scrubbing it every time you use it, etc etc. Around 2,500 was Mikes estimate as well.
