Hello

Has anyone had any success with using non magnum Large primers in 300PRC? Lapua Brass, RL26 Berger 220 LRHT

I don't shoot 300 PRC and I haven't used RL26...

However I use CCI BR2 primers when I load for my 300 Win Mag with Power Pro 4000 MR and H1000. No issues with hang fires from either powder... And I typically have low ES/SD with 4000 MR/BR2... H1000 the numbers aren't as low but it ignites fine.

Having said that...

The last outing to the range it was 36°F and my velocities were 80-100 fps below normal with 4000 MR... I have a feeling that temp sensitivity of the powder may have played a larger role in that. But I also wonder if a magnum primer may have helped mitigate it.

Not the exact info you were looking for. But maybe in the same ballpark.

Before someone told me I should use the Federal magnum primers, I used the non-magnums with RL26 and 230 Hybrids.

I noticed no difference.

I shoot BR2s (they are not magnum primers) with my 300 PRC/RL26/Berger 230s. I found them to be the most consistent.

Here's the reality...

While I can't imagine primer consistency varying too much from one rifle to another, it is a possibility.

Add in varying brands/lots of brass and primers, as well as lot to lot variation in powders... The only way the OP will know for certain is to test on his own.

If several folks reply with, "Worked fine for me." Or... "I've had good luck with X..." then that might be a good indicator. But the only way to know for sure is to test with your components in your rifle.

Might be the best combo ever... Might not perform for shit.
