Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

Thanks.

Grabbed a couple quick pics while the coffee maker was firing up.

When I get home from work tonight I'll be able to spend some time on it and get the missing plunger, pins, etc better photographed and send the info into Ruger and see if they'll send the parts.

I'll post up better pics here, too,.

Hoping there is no damage done and it's simply missing parts.

A borescope down the barrel will tell the rest of the story. Fingers crossed the chamber and barrel are undamaged.

I was stupid for continuing to run the gun through that first box. Should've stoped right there.

Rushing & being a dumbass.

I must have missed something when I read your posts. What ammunition were you shooting?

What bore guide would y’all recommend? The one I’ve used for my .264 Win mag and 26 Nosler is too lose in the chamber of my 6.5PRC RPR.

I am using a bore guide I purchased from a place called Possom Hollow or something like that.

If I'm not mistaken, it's your ejector spring. The ejector pin isn't there in your pic. The pin that holds them in place must've come loose.

PMA has been great for me. Below is the one made for the RPR 6.5PRC:

Your rifle should be fine. Just missing some parts. Call ruger and they will take care of you. If you know how, ask them to send you the pin and plunger to install. They will probably ask you to send the whole gun back on their dime but if you feel comfortable just get them to send you the parts and do it yourself.
If not, send the rifle back.

Are there any other buttstock options besides the PRS?

Good question. I had to heavily modify the Magpul PRS stock to fit me properly. If I had to do it all over again, I would have left the OEM stock on the RPR.

One of the best is (was) Target Tool. Not inexpensive, but a really nice rear stock. Not sure if they are still in production. My thoughts, Pine Tree Casting ought to purchase a license and put them on all the custom shop RPR’s.

Slick. It looks like the MDT ACC buttstock might work. But I haven't seen one mounted up anywhere.

Unfortunately, they use different attachment methods and won't work. Their Skeleton Rifle Stocks also don't work since they use an extremely short (2" or so") buffer tube to mount and there isn't room for the bolt extension to fully enter. However their Skeleton Carbine Stock should work since it uses a hollow buffer tube. https://mdttac.com/mdt-scs-skeleton-carbine-stock/

Not sure about their Skeleton Rifle Stock Lite stocks since I'm not sure how much if any if the tube is hollow and the cheekpiece guide rods go through it.

Hope this helps.

That is a big help. I hadn't accounted for the bolt extension riding through the stock. I've been on the fence about purchasing one. I want a short barrel 308 with a folding stock and fully covered handguard...without spending Cadex or AICS money. I've an RPR in 6.5 PRC and I like it. Ammo and reloading components are a pain, but I guess they are all like that.

Is anyone using a WOA barrel in 223?
Bought a barrel but found out the gun smith I am hoping to send to has moved to Idaho :)

No help with a gunsmith. It was not WOA or 223, but I installed LRI barrel in 6.5CM (RPR was originally 308). It wasn't bad at all to install. I think I only had to purchase headspace gauges. Do you have any interest doing it yourself?

M16A1E stock w/rifle buffer tube for std calibers are plug and play and "if" you can find one of the scarce USGI smooth plastic or rubber coated trapdoor style buttplates. Magnum calibers (.300 WM shown below) require cutting a notch in the threads for cocking piece clearance.

WOA now offering drop-ins for RPR in .223, but beware the 14 twist will NOT handle Sierra 55 Blitzkings. Great for 40/50 grain VMAX bullets though.

Glad you got it sorted out.

I have a PRS stock to install on my AR-10 when I get some time. Already have one on and AR-15 and freakin love it.

That's a bad ass bolt knob on your Ruger.
Would you be interested in selling your RPR stock? The magpul prs cheek rest sits too far back on my ashbury 700 and I think the ruger stock will remedy this.

Anyone get the Trigger Tech Diamond for their RPR yet?

Does anyone want a stock gen2 stock? I have a cheek pad on it and a bag rider that was 3D printed to slide onto the bottom. I can let it go for a good price. Can provide pictures if anyone wants it

Will you take the same $50 the one above went for? If so, then I am interested. PM me.

Anyone throw an apa little bastard on here? Thinking about switching the brake on my gen 2

I have an extra anarchy outdoors penguin grip in black I no longer need. If anyone wants a good deal shipped, let me know.

Target Tool has stocks on their website. Been out for some time. If you are not happy with the stock, RPR rear stock, and don’t mind spending a bit of cash for a really nice addition to your rifles(s) need to check these out

As said, NDIH but I sure like mine.

We expecting the triggers to be released sometime in September. Anarchy Outdoors will be doing a pre sale for the launch of the trigger and we are starting to prepare for it. I have personally tested two or three prototype version of the triggers. I have a dozen laying around the shop. Both specials and diamond. They are very well built and are worth the wait.
@theaoguy Have you received any update from Triggertech or any pending pre-sale info from AO?

How does the rifle balance with the Target tool stock? The stock looks very heavy does it change the rifles balance a ton?

Balance has been an issue but no worse than with the factory stock. If the RPR has an issue is that it really needs a couple more inches of barrel (and a bit more barrel metal would be nice as well.). That said, the hammer forged barrel has been a real surprise as far as accuracy.

Does anyone have experience with the RPR in 22 LR. Is it really a precision bbl or would I be looking to replace the factory bbl ? I want to get into 22 rimfire competition and they wont allow my 17.

There is a dedicated thread for the rprr over in the rimfire section. Might want to check that out. But... since your here, what kind of competition? Probably good enough for nrl or prs 22. I would be looking for a different barrel for nrlx. I would look for a completely different rifle if looking for benchrest or some other ultra precise rimfire competition.

Right now just local weekly competitionn

It would work fine for that. I and several of my friends have them, they won’t run with a $3000 rifle but they’re pretty accurate for their price point. We’ve taken them to 300+ plenty of times.

I just want the handguard, not a fan of the red accessories, don't need the barricade stop or trigger
I called Ruger a few months ago asking about obtaining the competition handguard with the flat bottom built in ARCA rail. They said they did not offer it separately. Gen 3 rifles have a different mounting hole pattern than Gen 2 and earlier. In order to run any of the aftermarket handguards on the Gen 3s, you gotta change more parts.

If anyone wants to take these parts off me for cheap, PM me
Ruger muzzle brake
Anarchy outdoors penguin grip
Magpul MOE stock in FDE

New to the precision rifle scene, just bought this rpr 6.5 creedmoor, with Vortex Venom 5-25x56 scope. Still need to buy a scope mount and bipod. What scope mounts would be recommended?
